Subscription Box1Greetings, Admirals! You’re listening to EPISODE 232 OF PRIORITY ONE PODCAST, the premier Star Trek Online podcast! This episode was recorded on Thursday, July 23rd, 2015 and made available for download or streaming on Monday, July 27th, 2015 at PriorityOnePodcast.com!

Our special guests this week are executive producer Alec Peters and director Rob Burnett from Star Trek: Axanar. We’re catching up with them as they move into their latest phase of fundraising, talking about how the project is progressing and where the money is going. We also digress a bit and end up talking Star Trek canon and San Diego Comic-Con, one year on from the debut of “Prelude to Axanar”.

In Star Trek Online news, we’re reviewing the new featured episode “Broken Circle”, Jayce is taking a more in-depth look at the new Tier 6 Resolute, and Kenna is talking duty officers. And as always, before we wrap things up, we’ll open Hailing Frequencies for your incoming messages.

TOPICS DISCUSSED

This week’s Community Question:

  • What doff ability would you love to see, whether a return of a hard-to-find past Duty Officer or a whole new one you can’t believe they’ve never implemented?

A long-time Trekkie, Elio has been watching the series since he was a child and sneaking in late night, back-to-back, episodes of TNG reruns. He finally embraced the Trekdom in college and spent many hours catching up on the entire multiverse…. instead of studying.

Unrelated question, I noticed that you guys don’t appear in the Trek.fm podcast list (the defunct “Deck Eight” still does) and I’d think that besides talking STO but you also discuss Trek in general -nvm the dynamite interviews- you guys should more than qualify.
    Just curious.

Minor correction for the axanar guys: TAS is canon per CBS:
    *begin-quote*
So the question remains, is Star Trek: The Animated Series (or Animated Adventures) canon, or not? We would like to think so, if only so we can make more work for ourselves and all future historians! At some point, we would like to start adding more information to our site gleaned from this show and have it form part of the overall collective consciousness of Star Trek. Or, do we simply leave the whole issue ambiguous and let the fans decide in their own mind what they consider canon? Put to a recent vote on the site, fans favored the canonization of the animated series by a margin of more than 2-1. Let the white smoke billow! *end-quote*

But for those who don’t get the statement at the end, white smoke signals the selection of a new pope. In other words, the rules have changed.

The final word on the matter was on the official CBS startrek.com page “what is canon” which they removed in 2010. This is preserved on ex astris scientia, and they repeat tas is canon but in contradictions live action has precedence.

While I suspect it is true they only did it to sell copies of the DVD, they still did it. Their show, their intellectual property, their rules.

Tl/Dr TAS is hard canon per CBS

Great episode as always P1 cast and crew. My favorite parts of this episode was definitely the Star Trek Axanar interview and the DOff grinding mention of the episode.

I do miss Kam with his insightful look into STO from a different point of view.

On the community question though, I would like to see certain DOff’s have R&D specialties from the beginning of STO, like the Liberated Borg DOff’s for instance. But, of couse, I would like to see some different DOff’s that are brand new with new traits and special abilities when active, like a Damage Control Engineer with an ability that could be useful for Tactical builds or Science builds.

Those particular DOff’s I would like to see in a Lock Box first, then in a holding for Fleets or in a DOff pack in the Zen Store, for a modest fee.

Keep up the great work P1 crew and see you all in game! 5/5 Quantum Singularities for this episode! 😀

Wonderful show, loved the interview, cant wait for Axanar to happen.

Suggestion: for names you are having a hard time with, they all become “bob”. Just start calling everyone you cant pronounce “bob”.

I wouldn’t mind to have both Isis and Halor Kurlam’s (nerfed) 1% chance to be restored/raised to 2.5 or even 5% 🙂

Great Axanar interview, I really, really hope this project takes off; it’s the kind of Trek that could draw a large (non-Trekkie) crowd. The design, sets and cast are awesome, kudos to the Axanar team for getting this far.

Too bad Kam left, I was hoping P1 could get some more in-depth discussions regarding the game mechanics, not just explaining various powers but actual builds etc.

The new Sci consoles are broken (getting fixed as we speak) and are doing hilarious millions (!) of DPS.
Al Riviera mentioned in your last interview about talking about the much maligned torpedoes in STO – their mechanic is ‘broken’ and I would love to hear the Developer’s take on this.

As always, good show *thumbs up*

Another awesome show, I’ve been keeping up with you guys for the last 8 months.

New doffs with new abilities would be a good addition to the game but it depends on what they are, unfortunately it doesn’t matter what’s added it will still get scrutinized by other players.

PS: Sorry about dropping the bomb in the in-game chat about the Feature Episode.

    Live Long and Prosper.

I think it would be cool if Cryptic implemented a new doff called the Emergency Command Hologram that would reduce the cooldowns on all of your captain abilities by 50% and would give you a significantly higher critical hit chance.

Another great show P1 crew, and an awesome chat room during the live show to boot!

New doffs with ultra rare abilities are a double edged sword. As a player who owns several rare purple doffs, I do like that they are making access to these rare abilities more plentiful for my other toons, however it also devalues the premium price I paid for getting those doffs in the past, but that is life I guess…
