We’re trekking out makeup designers Glenn Hetrick and Neville Page’s latest Q and A session about character design in Star Trek: Discovery. There’s a Star Trek opera coming to Orlando, Florida, and a rare Ralph McQuarrie Star Trek model fails to sell at auction – but it’s still up for grabs if you have the cash.

In Star Trek Online News, the latest expansion “Victory is Life” is now live – and we’re bringing you our first impressions.

Later, Jake and Cookie are here with another look at some great Trek merchandise in The Promenade, and after that, we’ve got a very special interview with the organizers of Treklesque – a Star Trek-themed Burlesque show.

Of course, as always, before we wrap up the show, we’ll open hailing frequencies for your incoming messages.

TOPICS DISCUSSED

THIS WEEK’S COMMUNITY QUESTION

  • What character do you think is being revived by Glenn Hetrick and Neville Page for season 2 of Discovery? And if you’re not sure, who would you LIKE to see?
  • What are your first thoughts of X4 – Victory is LIfe in Star Trek Online?

A long-time Trekkie, Elio has been watching the series since he was a child and sneaking in late night, back-to-back, episodes of TNG reruns. He finally embraced the Trekdom in college and spent many hours catching up on the entire multiverse…. instead of studying.

I actually wan’t MORE Borg!!!…in Star Trek Online. I think that there’s more to be explored with them in-game; where they came from, and perhaps some stuff with the Unimatrix Zero/Liberated Borg. (Maybe for the next expansion? *fingers crossed*) Leave them out of Discovery though; the Borg don’t really fit that setting.

As for the new/old alien, I’m going with *drum roll please*…RUBBER HEAD GORN GUY!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 And not a CGI’d one, like on Enterprise or in STO (which look great, but I digress), but a dude dressed up as a lizard with an obvious, rubber head. It’s what everyone really wants, right? RIGHT?!? (*waits for the foam boulders to fly*)

Victory is Life seems cool so far, the Jem’Hadar are neat, and the story is fun. A few “meh” moments in some of the episodes, but that happens. Unfortunately, now I’m stuck shooting at an endless swarm of space bugs, while waiting for more stuff to come. (Playable Vorta & Changelings PLEEEASE!!!)

It’s okay Kena, I’m with you. The Borg queen destroyed the concept and ruined the fear factor of complete loss of individuality. Instead of single consciousness it just became slavery. And then Voyager ran the Borg into the ground. I was very tired of them by the time Voyager was over.

I will say that Enterprise’s take making their appearance a predestination paradox worked well enough for me, but I think at this point we really need to be done with The Borg, especially in prequel material like Discovery.

A person i’d like to see would be(this is going to be a deep pull)Allek-Om. “WHOO?!?”you ask, well he’s from the star trek animated series episode:”Yesteryear” He’s an Aurelian which are taller than a man winged bird people, and is part of the federation as a historian. Didn’t get to talk much in the episode as the other person accompanying him Grey (also a historian) talked more. The epiosode was more about Spock anywho.

I would love to see the Born returned to their former glory of being the most terrifying enemy in the Trekverse. Huamnity’s fear of becoming overrun by our technological creations is more scary than chestbursters in aliens. More scary than the Iconians of STO. It’s time the Borg become our greatest gear again.

As for Victory is life, I loved every part of it, from the explosion with the sunglasses in Quark’s parody of Oceans Eleven to Kira and Odo coming to blows like it was DS9 all over again. Let me just say this though, SPOILER WARNING, I can see whats going to happen. The Jem’Hedar have become self aware since coming to the alliance. They will rebel against the Founders. And Martok now has the Sword of Kahless. He Will challenge that Coward J”mpok for control o the Empire. And what of T’Ket? Will we see her again? I know we will. Buckle up, Captains, this just got real.

In regards to characters being revived, I am not sure, but I would like to see is Gary Seven (I think he was in Assignment Earth) and Akharin (Requiem for Methusalah) perhaps making a pass at Holberg 917-G and or referencing a plan to visit a world called Exo III?

I think this expansion has been the best yet since Legacy of Romulus as considering that expansion had the ability to play from the very start at Verinat Colony to end game, was initially a bit confused as to why they had to start Jem’Hadar at lvl60 but I can understand considering the amount of work which would have had to have been done creating a Dominion faction from start to finish and then interweave into the story line would have been a little much.

For the future, I would like to see, a linear progression, now **spoilers** with the Dominion in essence in chaos, there is a likely to be some fall-out, if the Dominion survives, I would argue that the Hur’q are restored, the two Great Links
are brought back together as I have not heard of the Great link on Orias III having not come back to the Dominion with Odo remaining in charge to teach his people and them going back into isolation for a time with perhaps the Vorta going with them.

The KDF having been brought into the war with the assistance of the Ferengi with a certain weapon of renown, I would argue may fracture with Jm’Pok and Martok
    coming to blows.

The Hur’Q now fully restored would assist the Jem’Hadar in alleviating their addiction with the help of Julian Bashir and would also assist the latter
in taking over the Dominion themselves from the Founders with the Federation,
KDF and Romulan Republic having a presence.

I would also argue that a certain Iconian will be rearing their ugly head **spoilers** and may make a beeline for Ferenginar with his fleet ruined and the rest of their kind in isolation, they are forced to look for other allies and they choose the Breen and the Tholians offering them technology to subdue the Alliance…

    Just my 2 cents.
