This week, we’re Trekking Out how the rumored Quentin Tarantino Star Trek film could be R-Rated, why Sir Patrick Stewart *might* consider coming back as Jean-Luc Picard, and how Christian Slater landed a role in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.

In Star Trek Online news, Q’s Winter Wonderland is upon us, and we’ve got details of a new minigame, and some of the goodies you can snag. Jayce is here with another Trek Lit 101, and later, we have a real treat in On Screen, as DeyvID from TrekRadio – a Klingon expert – joins us to talk about the Klingons in Discovery.

And as always, before we wrap up the show, we’ll open hailing frequencies for your incoming messages.

Elio is a Northern New Jersey Cuban-American and graduate of Kean University, having earned his Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Performance in 2011. He has performed in internationally renowned performance halls such as Avery Fisher Hall with the New York Philharmonic, as a member of the Westminster Symphonic Choir, and in Beijing, China as a representative for Kean University. Since 2012, he has had the wonderful opportunity to Executive Produce Priority One – the premiere Star Trek Online podcast. Whether recruiting, managing the global team of talented volunteers, arranging interviews with special guests, editing, web-development, finding sponsors, managing crowd funding, or writing content for the podcast, Elio has a hand in it all. A long-time Trekkie, Elio has been watching the series since he was a child and sneaking in late night, back-to-back, episodes of TNG reruns. He finally embraced the Trekdom in college and spent many hours catching up on the entire multiverse…. instead of studying.

My kid mostly hears swearing from me when I’m watching Discovery or JJ Trek

I venture that these Klingons might be the ancestors of the group that ends up in the delta quadrant. And perhaps some houses escaped the augment virus or had fake ridges put on to maintain their original Klingon look as seen on Enterprise.

    Hey guys.

Would I go to see an ‘R’ rated Star Trek? Hells YES! The rating allows a broader scope of what they can ‘get away with’. Regards to the ‘pink blood’, ST:VI is my favourite Trek film and… well I know why they made Klingon blood pink, but yeah, it’s basically an R rated scene (…It’s not murder if it’s robots).

I think crossovers are a great thing if done well and I would trust Tarantino to go there over a number of other writers. Also, Star Trek Online have given a fairly good ‘in’ for Picard to cross over already and a little justification of that may not be unfair.

As for plot? I’ve always thought that the Temporal Cold War was never really explored well (or thoroughly) in ST:Ent and especially the Sphere Builders (I like what STO have started with them, but again, not a lot of exploration really), so that could be cool. Or… well, there’s always Borg… (Film 4 counts as Season 4 right?). I reckon that Tarantino could write a bloody good Borg story, and come on, if you’re gonna have problems with Borg, Picard is gonna be the one you call. We already know they like fiddling about with universes they have no right to interfere in (cough*fluidicspace*cough) and Picard will go to almost any length to stop them.

    Great Pod as always!

Wonderful show everyone, thanks to DeyvID for the enlightening information.

I think an r rated trek is not in and of itself a bad idea, however i do agree with Kenna that ST should not really be something the kids cant watch.

    CQ2) Nexus.

I don’t necessarily object to an R-rated Trek affair, as long as the content requiring that rating is not frivolous. No ‘alien boobage’ for no reason whatsoever (besides folks liking T&As), or Cadets flippantly swearing when similar phrases would have achieved the exact same effect, etc. (Yes Tilly, that is ‘frakking’ cool.) R-rated Trek should mean something more than just showing skin and saying naughty words.

Say WHAAAAAT? For the life of me, I can’t see how to insert Jean-Luc Picard into the JJverse without it only seeming like the most blatant fan service ever. Which I and likely many other Trekkies would LOVVVE, but still. Plus Tarantino directing, so it’s automatically gonna have Picard wielding a Tommy gun again; Dixon Hill: Vol. 2, Kill Borg Now.

Happy Holidays P1 and gang! Also, Happy Life Day, Festivus, Saturnalia, Krampusnacht, Boxing Day, Winter Solstice, Feast of Alvis, Hogswatch, Isaac Newton’s birthday, and all of the other various religious and cultural celebrations that I could find on a Wikipedia page. May your gatherings be filled with food, family, friends, and fun. 🙂 See ya in the New Year.

I would absolutely go see an R Rated Star Trek Movie. It’s Star Trek. It wouldn’t keep me from at least seeing it, assuming it was a good movie that is. However, I don’t think Star Trek should make the ratings leap as it’s not right to leave out our younger Trekkies.

And Two weeks ago you guys talked about that film regarding the autistic girl pitching the star trek script. Once again I’ve thought long and hard but I can relate to that film, I really can. Being on the spectrum scale myself, I know how difficult it can be especially for those higher on the scale than I am. Having a community with the same love as you does help ease the tension and the anxiety and everything else that comes with this disorder. I look at being autistic like this. You can run your disorder or let it run you. The Star Trek Community is how I choose to run it by not letting it cause me to miss out on the thing I love the most.
