It’s Thanksgiving Week for some of our team here in the States, so we’re keeping it short and sweet, and we’ll be back next week with even more Star Trek goodness for you to enjoy.
But for this week, we’re Trekking Out the latest rumours about a Galaxy Quest reboot, whether veteran Trek cameos in Star Trek: Discovery would be a good idea, and whether Discovery has “broken” existing Star Trek canon.
It’s pretty quiet in Star Trek Online this holiday week, but the game is full of special offers, so we’re letting you know what goodies you can grab.
And as always, before we wrap up the show, we’ll open hailing frequencies for your incoming messages.
- Do you think Galaxy Quest should be brought to the small screen for an on-demand platform?…. Or was the movie gold just the way it is and no further storytelling is needed?
- Would you rather see iconic characters (i.e. a Spock, a Kirk, a Pike) make appearances on Star Trek: Discovery? Or avoid them and keep introducing new characters?

I would prefer a GQ sequel rather than a tv show. The only way to do a show would be to start back at the show, do parts with the aliens receiving the transmissions, then building the ship and training. Slip over the movie and then go back to do stuff from both before the movie and after. As for after, dont any of these people have family? What do they do now, never go back into space? The aliens themselves have plenty of adventures.
As for cameos in Discovery, enterprise had Dorn on as a grandsomething of worf’s, i could see something like that. Also some of the Enterprise people could still be seen.
Wonderful show everyone.

I think there is plenty of room for Discovery to have iconic characters come on as cameos while still focusing on and having their own original characters.

Galaxy Quest : no such thing as too much of a good show. If done badly though, it could be upsetting. Would never want to say no to new content though, on the chance it’d be better or more of the same thing we already enjoy.
Iconic Characters : Without a good storyline reason, I’m very against this. Cameo appearances are awesome, and we all know Michael Dorn likes to be in everything, but Warf is Warf, he should stay Warf, and he cannot therefore walk onto this screen without some serious splainin to do.

Nah, I think Galaxy Quest should remain as is. I mean, what else could they add to keep it fun? Sooner or later the show would stop being about a bunch of struggling sci-fi actors thrown into a REAL sci-fi scenario, and turn into just another Star Trek look-alike, but with awkward jokes crammed in to be ‘different’. And that already exists. *cough*Orville*cough*
Why does it have to be Kirk or Spock? Unless Pine or Quinto are ready to show up, enough Trekkies will hate the idea of their favorite TOS main characters showing up that it would fall flat on arrival. And even those JJVerse cameos might be a mixed bag. Minor characters are the way to go!! I thought Mudd was great, and the DISCO could have someone like Captain Robert April (the FIRST Enterprise captain) for a visit, or Garth of Izar before he went insane. Unless we still want to forget about that ‘one’ fan Trek debacle…
Or how ’bout ‘Number One’, Majel Barrett’s character from “The Cage”? She was rumored to be the original lead character for DISCO before we got Spock’s sister instead; why not bring her aboard? Room for canon nods AND fresh character development. 🙂
