Thinking of the Abrams comment about Axanar, I think it just comes down to exactly what the comment you read about Nimoy said. It was overwhelming more important more positive news. And I think that was all that was behind Abrahm’s comment. I think he was as sick of it as the rest of us and just said something to make it go away. I think it was totally unoficial, but I think it did clear the way for the community to put the thing into the past.

Just a side opinion. It would be really nice to have different loading screen for STO, something like the warp in sequence for Kofez will be extremely awesome. Or at least let players choose camera angle for warp in/out will be wonderful.

Hey Guys,
First off, great show as always. Priority One Podcast has been the staple of my Monday routine for a couple of years and it’s always makes my Monday brilliant.
As much as I am loathe to criticize you for your work, I have to say that your reporting on the issue of Axanar was less than factually fulfilling.
First: JJ Abrams doesn’t work for Paramount. He owns and operates Bad Robot productions who happen to partner with Paramount on some productions (i.e. the New Trek films) and cannot, under any circumstances, “make the lawsuit go away.” His statement was a shameless attempt to get fans at a fan event to cheer.
Second: CBS/Paramount and Axanar have been in Alternative Dispute Resolution talks over the last two weeks as ordered by Judge Klausner. Predicting that a case like this was going to settle when both parties are in settlement talks was like predicting rain in Ireland. We all knew it was going to happen, but these are private and confidential discussions between the legal teams, and even affected parties are not usually party to the talks.
Third: The “announcement” from JJ was on the 20th of May. Axanar and Alec Peters have, as of the 23rd of May, not only filed their answer to the legal complaint made by CBS/Paramount, but they have also filed a countersuit. Their claim in the counter-suit is requesting that the judge declare that Prelude to Axanar and the planned Axanarscripts and film are not infringing and award Axanar with Defense Attorneys Fees, “such other, further, or different relief that it may find just, proper, and equitable under the circumstances.”
SO! Here’s where things get frustrating. Axanar has been declaring that they want to settle, make this go away and get on with making a fan film, but their legal team has basically made it impossible for Paramount/CBS to settle the suit in any way and are essentially forcing the copyright owners to go to court.
Please get that lawer fella Tony on (from that other podcast) to go through the legalities of this, even briefly, cos this is a lot more nuanced than is being reported in most Star Trek Medi (let’s not even get started on the media that DOESN’T focus on Trek.) What a lot of people don’t realise as well, is that this suit doesn’t just affect Fan Films, but ALL unofficial productions! Fan Films, Audio Dramas, Fan fiction…it’s all in danger due to the arrogance of one man!
Sorry for the rant, but this suit could massively impact a HUGE portion of the Star Trek community and it drives me insane that Peters is fighting CBS/Paramount for their own copyright.
TL;DR It seems to me like Axanar is portraying one face in public (the hurt little underdog trying to fight off the big mean corporation) and an entirely different face in private.

This +1.

Uh.. No one is forcing anyone to go to court. Both parties can settle on whatever terms they want out of court and they can then both drop their lawsuits.

Speaking of the devil being in the details: If you’ve been in a Tau Dewa sector patrol recently and had the Enterprise show up, look closely. The famous NCC-1701-F registry is missing, replaced by a generic NCC-97000!
