Someone should ask xenophobic Al Rivera why he hates Klingons.

The new Star Trek series would be enough to get me to subscribe to CBS All Access, except that I’m in Canada, and we don’t have access to it up here. I’m still not clear how, or even if, my wife and I will be able to watch the new series.

In the new expansion I’d like to see Harry Mudd and Cyrano Jones – as Thralls on Triskelion forced to fight each other. Maybe we could get Stella Mudd android Duty Officers.

I know I have ranted about CBS in previous community questions… and I’m glad I get to do so again! Mwahaha!

(Q1) Despite all the great shows CBS has made, they do not understand the changing distribution market. A service can offer both a free tier with ads, and a paid tier without ads, but it is just plain stupid to force* a paid tier with ads. If it was free with ads, then I would be okay with the weekly release, but forcing subscribers into a few months is ridiculous. You keep subscribers on a monthly basis by offering new content every month, not by stretching out one piece of content.

*A side note to slightly defend Hulu. Keep in mind that the original Hulu Plus did not charge to watch content. Content was still free to watch with ads, while the Plus model allowed subscribers to watch on mobile and set-top boxes. Hulu now offers a paid tier with no ads, with one or two exceptions. (/Q1)

(Q2) While not a character, I would be interesting in seeing what happened to The First Federation. Maybe the Na’kuhl got confused and destroyed them instead?(/Q2)

Alright, now I’m off to go find a place to write a long-form rant against CBS All Access.

    Wonderful show everyone.

cq1) Probably not, that is a lot of money for one show.

cq2) Uhura, as a temporal intelligence agent.

    • seannewboy on 2016-05-11

and thanks to Al for dropping by and telling us what he could.

    • David S on 2016-05-11

Actually, at $6 a month for all access, assuming 4 episodes a month, that breaks down to $1.50 an epsiode. Even for a rental that’s incredibly cheap. Except for the ads of course.

  8. Matt on 2016-05-10

    1) I was going to but Elijah might have talked me out of it.

    2) normal-head/augment Klingons. Captain Pike & Number One from The Cage. Also, if we’re getting timey-wimey, Daniels and the 1701-J.

Also, from Als comments about Chase Masterson I suspect a lot of the TOS plot might be mirror-centric.

I know the younger generation cut there star trek teeth on TNG but I grew up in a time when TOS and the animated series was all the Star Trek there was for a while. I cannot tell you how thrilled I am about The Agents of Yesterday expansion. I purchased the Super pack the first day I can’t wait to get my hands on all of those ships. A million thanks to Cryptic for creating this expansion You made an old Man very happy.

  12. VengefulDjinn on 2016-05-09

I completely agree with Elijah and the CBS all Access topic expressed in this podcast.

This really pisses me off because it’s squandering the chances of success of the new show.

Myself, I will support the show, to support new Trek, but I won’t suffer mediocrity long before I bail, (unlike in the past, where I’ve given a pass to previous Trek incarnations).

The new show had better knock my socks off. That’s all I’m saying.

  13. GavinRuneblade on 2016-05-09

Minor bit of nerdrage. Once more, CBS officially declared the animated series canon. Here’s a link to an older comment I made with all the details, so I won’t do it again: http://priorityonepodcast.com/po232/

On CBS All Access, I am disappointed in how it is setup and what it offers but I want to see the new show so I am getting it. #wellplayedcbs
For the new series, I am happy we are getting Scotty and Checkhov, getting some more Leeta is also cool. I dearly hope that we get Uhura and Sulu. One of my favorite animated episodes was the Loreli Signal where Uhura takes command and I would love to see her with her own ship. I’m sad that John Colicos is dead because we can’t get Kor. What I would enjoy is revisiting the younger captain B’vat, after he arranges his older self’s death which is when we last saw him. Possibly getting to see some of his fall from the young honorable warrior into the cynical and bitter villain he became.

Please, the next time you get to talk to Al, ask him about putting the story blogs into the game. They are all so good and I know many players are not seeing them. And any new player who goes through the delta arc for the first time, or the iconian war for the first time cannot experience these additions to the story. Since we are getting new wonderful story blogs for the current temporal story, please ask Al to get them into the game so they are not lost.

Going with canon for the red/gold uniforms makes me happy, even knowing it is going to be a mess. Same with the look and sound changes for the gear and characters and costumes. I have to admit I am completely excited for this expansion.

I do hope that Risa happens after Agents of Yesterday, because then my agent or agents can get the summer rewards and costumes.

As always, thanks for a great show!

While I am relieved that the new star trek series is supposed to take place in the prime universe, the show itself won’t be enough to get me to subscribe to all access. Don’t get me wrong I’m excited about the show and I’m happy to purchase it either on disc or in a digital format, but I think it would be a bit much for me to subscribe to another streaming service just for one show. I think if CBS really wants to get more subscribers, then they’ll stop suing fan films like Star Trek Axanar

Hmm, just read the linked review of CBS all access. To me it seems like nothing more than a piece of promotional material. I agree that they are just trying to wring as much money out of people as possible, the problem, its not going to create any new star trek fans.

On the plus side, it does mean that they have to get the premiere absolutely right – if they screw it up, people wont subscribe.

Very glad that there is going to be a free toon slot for TOS.

Q1) Cant subscribe, in the UK, but as it stands, I wouldn’t even if I could as things stand. Because I am a CSI and NCIS fan, they would have to add a fair amount of exclusive content from these two shows, or maybe a new JAG series for me to consider it, (if I could).

Q2) I wouldn’t mind seeing Archer, as in a way, he could be considered the first temporal agent. Post Enterprise, he could easily have become more involved, even to the point of writing the temporal prime directive (Also, he might not be too difficult to get as a voice actor as he is a main star in NCIS New Orleans, which is a CBS show). Seven of Nine has also been a temporal agent (of sorts). There is also the possibility of Captain Braxton.

Oh, also maybe Kang, Kor and Koloth, hey, how about a Curzon Dax?
