Subscription Box1Greetings, Captains! You’re listening to EPISODE 259 OF PRIORITY ONE PODCAST, your weekly report on all things Star Trek! This episode was recorded LIVE on Thursday, February 18th, 2016 and made available for download or streaming on Monday, February 22nd, 2016 at PriorityOnePodcast.com!

In Trek it Out this week, we’re talking about time travel, isolinear chips, and a couple new events Star Trek fans will get excited about this year. In STO News – and this is big – we’re talking to Jeremy Randall (aka Borticus Cryptic) all about the new skill tree revamp that’s just been announced. Later, Cookie and Elijah are discussing the TNG episode “Haven” in our On Screen segment. Finally, we’ve got a very special report from the Astrometrics Lab – our science advisor Dr Robert Hurt is giving us the low-down on the first detection of gravitational waves.

As usual, before we wrap up the show, we’ll open hailing frequencies for your incoming messages.

TOPICS DISCUSSED

This week’s Community Questions:

  • If you could replicate anything, what would it be?
  • And from our On Screen segment: Do you think Deanna and Wyatt had a chance at making it work, or would they have crashed and burned?
  • Would Riker have pulled a Wayne’s World and stopped the wedding? Would you want Lwaxana Troi as a Mother-In-Law?

He has performed in internationally renowned performance halls such as Avery Fisher Hall with the New York Philharmonic, as a member of the Westminster Symphonic Choir, and in Beijing, China as a representative for Kean University. Since 2012, he has had the wonderful opportunity to Executive Produce Priority One – the premiere Star Trek Online podcast. Whether recruiting, managing the global team of talented volunteers, arranging interviews with special guests, editing, web-development, finding sponsors, managing crowd funding, or writing content for the podcast, Elio has a hand in it all. A long-time Trekkie, Elio has been watching the series since he was a child and sneaking in late night, back-to-back, episodes of TNG reruns. He finally embraced the Trekdom in college and spent many hours catching up on the entire multiverse…. instead of studying.

Thanks for the great interview with Borticus. And thanks to Bort for being so great about the feedback in general, here on twitter, on reddit, in the forums, you are really doing an amazing job engaging the community so thank you.

I might be the only person not worried about respecs or generalist builds. If builds are looking at having 500 points in a critical skill, let’s say particle generators. Well already 400 of that comes from gear. So if my build gives zero, I still can have 400, just not 500. I can’t speak for anyone else, but I’m ok with being 80% effectiveness in a second ship compared to my main build. I am not going to cry nerf if I don’t get free respects or dual builds in order to have 500 in a skill instead of 400. And that is literally a worst case scenario, because if you spent even 1 space point in the skill you’d have 450 instead of 400.

I’ll just answer one community question this time: I would enjoy Lwaxana as an inlaw. Yes she can be rude and impolite from time to time. I also know that she and my mother would have way too much fun together. And I know I would definitely laugh a lot more at family events.

Biggest fail this year, not knowing the counter to “buried alive”. *riker face palm*

    Entertaining show everyone.

    cq1) Portable fusion generator.
    cq2) Nope.
    cq3) No and yes.

Thanks for the Q&A with Bort, his insights into the Skill revamp were great to hear. Regarding the Experience Points/Expertise confusion, perhaps “Expertise” could be renamed something like “Officer Points”, given their primary role is to improve the rank and powers for a player’s bridge officers. I hope something comes out of the idea for having different ‘Skill Loadouts’ for players who fly multiple kinds of ships on the same character, that would be nice.

    On to the Community Questions:
    1) If I could replicate anything, I’d get ALL THE MONIES IN THE WORLD! Then I could get anything I want! 😀
Really though, I think it would depend on the size and capabilities of the replicator available. We never see any of them big enough to make Maseratis on a regular basis, it’s pretty much limited to foodstuffs and 80’s-chic clothing…there’s nothing in that bin that I particularly desire.

    2) I actually think that Deanna and Wyatt (played by Robert Knepper, also known for playing the evil guy on “Heroes”, “Stargate Universe”, and…well, a lot of other stuff too, he’s kinda been typecast into that role by this point) had a decent chance at making it as a couple; maybe they wouldn’t have been ‘Riker-Troi’ awesome, but I think they would have been alright, they seemed to like each other well enough.

    3) No, I think Riker would have sat back and let the wedding happen; as much as he cared about Deanna, he didn’t seem ready to make that commitment until much later in the series, given the choice between her and his still potent command ambitions. If he had any inclination that he was willing to fight for her at this point, you’d think that he’d have reigned back his regular womanizing later in the series and tried to pursue Deanna exclusively following the experience of almost losing her for good. Maybe Season 6-7 Riker would have fought for her, but he’s not there yet.

Lwaxana is always fun to watch (she even appears in the recent dev story blog!), especially when she’s messing with other people, though not so much when her attentions are turned towards YOU. Still, she seems like a solid matronly character, so she’d probably be an OK in-law.

With the new system atm, and the hostile environment against alts on holodeck.
Either respec token have to come in packs of 50, or IT HAS TO BE AVAILABLE ALTERNATIVELY…
The new skill tree tied really heavily into the ship you’re flying, and TBH it is really off putting for $5.00 fee everytime you change ship with optimal layout……..
