Star Trek was one of the first positive futures that I encountered. So much SciFi is about bleak or broken futures. Trek strongly guided me to seeing change and the future with hope not fear.
I love the minigame. When I was a kid there was an Atari game called Kaboom. It is very similar to the omega minigame but vertical. I don’t power grind, but I do pick up quite a few particles every day. Also it is a fantastic way to get rich. During the last upgrade weekend I sold a bunch of omega materials at more than 15 times higher prices that I paid for them during the first omega event. Earned several hundred million EC. With two upgrade weekends on the calendar, I imagine almost everyone will sell out, so by holding everything I earn now and waiting until after March when the supply is gone I’ll do even better. Some cunning Ferengi hoarded all the yellow fragments last time so the price of the higher materials skyrocketed artificially. I suspect a number of people will stockpile yellows this round and the smart fellow will manipulate a different part of the chain. I can’t wait to see how it plays out. Market PvP is the best PvP. ^.^
In the Battle, my favorite part of the episode are actually Will Wheaton’s comments about how poorly Westley was written. Memory Alpha has a great section about it in the episode writeup. I always enjoyed the irony in how Bok got screwed because he cared about something more than profit. The Ferengi are supposedly so petty and selfish because they only care about profit, and here one of them puts another motive ahead of profit… and it doesn’t end well for him. Having his own people turn on him for that is poetic justice. Plus it left open the door for his return, even though that episode wasn’t nearly as fun as this one.

I’ve been power grinding the omega stabilisation, but let’s remember that even if you score zero you still get a trace. My approach has been to not even bother trying to score points, I begin each mini game and just let it time out on its own while watching Netflix. I’ve caught up on so much TV in the past couple weeks. If you park your ship in a space location between several particles you can usually not move for hours and just keep stabilising the particles spawned around you. It’s kinda like fishing, except you always catch one fish a minute.

Some tips for the Omega Minigame:
Options > Basic > Interface Scale
If you have precision but need speed, adjust the interface size to make the minigame smaller so your mouse needs to cover less distance.
If you have speed but not precision, do the opposite and make the UI bigger so it is easier to stay inside the rows.
Several of the space maps have locations where you can get 3 or 4 particles at once without moving. Since they have a 2 minute respawn you can farm these locations forever. DS9 is not one of these as its spawns move every 10 minutes or so. But vulcan space and drozana are great.
If you are getting stuttering in the minigame, check this reddit thread for a solution:

The Battle is one of my favorite episodes of the first season. We get to some back story about Picard and we also get a more accurate portrayal of the Ferengi. I do think it would have been a good idea to take Daimon Bok into custody. After all, manipulating a starfleet captain is a serious offense. regarding the protocol for abandoning ship, all starfleet ships were equipped with a self destruct mechanism beginning with the original enterprise in TOS. The crew of the stargazer probably tried to activate the self destruct before they left the ship. The ship had probably suffered enough damage during the attack that the self destruct was rendered inoperable. the crew had no choice but to let the ship drift in space.

How has star trek influenced my life?
Well, Ever since I was a small child I always looked up to Mr Scott. My father was an engineer and I loved all things technical. So I embraced engineering with open arms. It became my passion in life. Now I have a fantastic career in a field I love. That is how my Star Trek influenced my life.
And kenna, I want to be a Chief, not a bloomin’ yeoman 😛

Just thinking, will Kenna be covering the UK Con?
