Elio is a Northern New Jersey Cuban-American and graduate of Kean University, having earned his Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Performance in 2011. He has performed in internationally renowned performance halls such as Avery Fisher Hall with the New York Philharmonic, as a member of the Westminster Symphonic Choir, and in Beijing, China as a representative for Kean University. Since 2012, he has had the wonderful opportunity to Executive Produce Priority One – the premiere Star Trek Online podcast. Whether recruiting, managing the global team of talented volunteers, arranging interviews with special guests, editing, web-development, finding sponsors, managing crowd funding, or writing content for the podcast, Elio has a hand in it all. A long-time Trekkie, Elio has been watching the series since he was a child and sneaking in late night, back-to-back, episodes of TNG reruns. He finally embraced the Trekdom in college and spent many hours catching up on the entire multiverse…. instead of studying.

    Hi P1 Gang

Thanks for a great show, was thoroughly enjoyable. I do however have some reservations on the updated format and features.

I am not 100% sure that I like the return of Elijah and Cookie – the torch was passed on quite some time ago and the new hosts have been doing excellently, making the show their own and engaging well with the larger community.

I really don’t see how the “new” P1podcast is any different – there has always been coverage of all things trek, with interviews and commentary on all aspects of the star trek universe. The only substantial difference is the merge with what Elijah and Cookie split off to do in the first place.

I don’t really get it, I feel that the On-Screen segment really would do better on its own.

I’m just not really satisfied with the reintegration / return of “old” hosts and their unique content. Listening to the livestream as it was being recorded, it was very obvious that Elijah was trying to regain control, which isn’t really his place any more.

Don’t get me wrong, I still loved the end product, I just don’t think the old hosts necessarily mesh very well with the new hosts any more

Farpoint is my favorite first episode of all the Trek series. Cage/Menagerie I do like better as an episode, but it doesn’t introduce the characters nearly as well as Farpoint did. I do disagree with Elijah on one point and that is I found DeForrest Kelly’s cameo to be a particularly relevant piece of character introduction for Data. In particular it sets up a wonderful contrast with Data’s interaction to Spock years later in the two-parter Unification. Specifically how Bones is at first comfortable around Data, then gets cautious when Data starts talking emotionalessly, but then becomes comfortable again. Paralleled with Data and Spock discussing their different paths, each guided by logic, but one toward humanity and one away from it. In both conversations the machine (Enterprise as described by Bones here in Farpoint, and Data as he questions himself in Unification) is distinctly treated with emotion, not cold logic. I think Data’s character would have been far less developed if anyone else had been walking with Bones in that scene.

Forgot to add, in keeping with the “Trek is an actual utopia” theme, The scene is basically forshadowing that Data will be making progress on his journey toward humanity. By showing how the Enterprise can be seen as a living thing, by a doctor, someone who deals with the living, it is all the more powerful as statement.

I do mostly agree with the fact that the TNG cast doesn’t change much from the beginning to the end of the show. However, while captain Picard isn’t as aggressive as Captain Kirk was, he is still a bit more aggressive at first then he is in the later seasons and riker, while ambitious at first, does become more experienced and “a little more seasoned” as counselor troi put it. TNG has always been my favorite of the Star Trek series. It’s what got me into Star Trek.

Good episode. Here are my thoughts. 1. it wasn’t really much of a change from the old format, you guys did exactly the same segments as before with the addition of one new one. Same music, same old hosts. I liked that. Expansion is good, just don’t forget the one that brought you to the dance (in this case, STO)

    2. I liked On Screen as it’s own show, it feels a bit tacked on to this one, hopefully this will improve in time. Feel free not to rush through it.

    3. Would it be possible to provide an upfront at the beginning of the show telling at what minute mark each segment is? Another podcast at SciFi4me just started doing that and I find it a nice feature.

    4. Keeping to an hour/ 45 min format is nice, but don’t feel you have to stick to exactly that, otherwise the show would feel rushed.

5,All together it was a good show, all the hosts are great. I’ll keep listening and maybe a year from now, tell you if the “new” format is working for me.

    Thanks.

Wonderful show everyone. I enjoyed the later seasons of tng, once they started letting the characters develop better.

Liking the new format, good job all. As for the community question, I definitely like the TNG cast. TNG is my second favorite series after DS9, and it’s because of the likes of Data, Geordi, Riker and the rest. They were excellent characters and they were played very well.

And I must say, it would be awesome if the Captain of the upcoming series were Cuban. I’d fully support that.

Regarding the Jupiter Class carrier: I picked one up when it launched. There are actually no options to “kit-bash” with alternative body styles that did not win the contest. I agree that would have been a cool thing to add, but the only visual customization is the hull material, decals and respective colors. Otherwise, the ship is really good for anyone who wants a carrier with science abilities.

For fans of yours that are curious, I put a video together with a starter build, which can be found here: https://youtu.be/VemI0r7vyvQ
