Of course, as always, before we wrap things up, we open Hailing Frequencies for your incoming messages.

PRIORITY ONE’S DELTA RECRUITMENT GUIDE!

TOPICS DISCUSSED

Micro-Review: The Iconian Resistance Reputation Space Traits (T2 and T4)

This is an interesting trait that seems to confuse some people.

You receive 2.5% of you outgoing (directed energy) damage as hull healing (triggers max 10 times per second) to self.

On paper it seems like a fantastic survivability trait, in practice it is fairly below average. It’s a very low level constant heal (as long as you’re doing damage and not at full health). It’s best to think of it as an addition to the normal passive hull healing your ship has.

In the long run, or i should say, in a long run; this trait will out heal the borg 2p. However this trait will not save you if you are taking a lot damage at once.

Radiant Detonation Matrix (Iconian Space T4):
This is a very controversial trait, mostly for PvPers; but some PvE-ers also have some gripes about it… Directed Energy Damage weapons have a 2.5% chance to do AOE radiation damage and remove buffs in an area around the target.

From a PvP perspective; the buff removal of this trait is extremely over-powered. Or so the PvPers claim… According to my testing, the buff removal only procs 1/minute. A PvP friend of mine told me he’s had it proc 1/45 seconds. So it looks like there is a 30 to 45s lock out on this ability.

A team of 5 people running this trait could theoretically keep you without any buffs permanently, however a team a of 5 science captains could do the exact same thing with SubNuke beam. With AHOD SubNuke can be fired off every 45 seconds also. Then there is the SubNuke carrier wave Intel Boff ability… and protonic barrage from the Dyson 3p space set; both of which also remove buffs. I don’t get why people are so up in arms over this one trait but seem to be fine with the others.

From a PvE perspective: the damage from this ability is really weak. From my testing it’s doing less than ½ the damage of Kemocyte Laced Weapons 1.

The trait description states that the trait benefits from exotic damage; however the particle generator skill does not buff it at all. The only thing that buffs the damage seems to be items or traits that have a direct bonus to exotic damage: like the constrictor anchor console, and the other T2 Iconian space rep trait “Particle Generator Amplifier”.

*Anything that buffs radiation damage will buff the damage though, but off the top of my head i can only think of a couple things that buff radiation.

** The devs have stated their intentions to nerf this ability so that it will only remove 1 buff at a time; and also reduce it’s damage

This week’s Community Question:

I have a very different view of the replay. BECAUSE I have alts, I’m going to replay the mission anyway. Getting rewarded for this, is nice. I use a different character each week.

More than that though, I enjoy replaying things and trying it different ways. That’s why I have alts. So I can try all kinds of different things.

I am also not a completionist. If I don’t see a set as worth using, then I have no problem only getting one piece and being done. If I want the full set, then I have no problem doing it a few times on one character.

That said, I think the best mission for this is Surface Tension (the one with Tuvok on the star orbital station) because this one has different options and challenges for replays (fight voth with beams, swarmers or nothing… and hide from the sun or protect Cooper). Very few other missions give you choices like that which is a shame, I’d love more options.

Question 2: I don’t PvP in PvE games. When I PvP I play something where there is no progressive gear or powers and everyone is on an equal footing (MOBA’s or FPS’s or RTS’s).

I find the iconian heal an ok trait, but not best of the best. It is doubly helpful for escorts since they have more damage and fewer engineering/science seats.

The T4 and T5 traits I haven’t unlocked yet. I don’t grind anything so it’ll be another month or two before I get them unlocked.

OMG thank you! I completely agree with having to repeat those missions to get the rewards. I get the reasons WHY but it greatly trivializes the “story” by having to grind it repeatedly for the rewards.

I’m not sure the devs would be ok with associating those rewards with the queues but it would make a lot more sense.

Answer to a question in the micro review, it is hated because it is new and the others you mention are old, no other reason.

CQ1)Gee i dont know whats bugging you people:3 runs of dust to dust for kobali space set (only mk xii space set for free), 4 times uneasy alliances for the 3 piece set and gun, 3 times blood of the ancients for set there. Easy peasy, its not like i have 17 alts, o wait i do *double facepalm*.

CQ2) For me pvp is just something i do with fleeties at our social events.

Wonderful episode, love how the new crew is starting to mesh well.

Well another great episode this week. I really hope Kenna and Kam stick around when Cookie returns. I think the more people hosting the show the more opinions we get.

I have to agree with Kenna with replaying feature episodes. I don’t like running the episodes over and over again. This game use to be fun with having 8-9 alts, now with specialization I cannot stand replaying episodes on alts. All replaying episodes on alts does is take time away from my main character. Cryptic needs to do something about the quality of life of alts. The new rewards program mentioned about event ships is a good step in the right direction, it is not enough. Since the release of Delta Rising alt play has been horrible.

I do PvP on the ground. So I understand the need for game balance. I am also a firm believer in balance through PvP. If the game is balanced in PvP you adjust PvE to perform the same. This will provide entire game balance. While I don’t mind the new tier 4 Iconian Traits I don’t see a reason not to have immunity against it. I would like to see that this and other traits like it only affect the target of the user. This will prevent ensure FAW and other triggers don’t stack. Everyone is aware how easy it is to get a 2.5% to trigger using FAW3.

To build more on game balance take the power Concussive Tachyon Emission (Tier 5 Delta rep), this power is OP. This power is way to strong in PvE and PvP. CTE is a game breaking power that is buffed by most tactical powers and affected by Tactical Initiative. In a well informed team this power could be set off every 10-15 seconds continuously. This power has been used to dominate PvE with five tactical captains and is just as dangerous in PvP. The sad thing is that if it is nerfed most players beside ground PvPers would cry about it. PvPers do not want to nerf things they just want game balance. That is enough of my rant.

I do have a suggestion for the P1 team. With the live stream and Kam’s ability to make videos I would like to see videos on walk through of the hardest level of each queue. While I appreciate the Wizards of STO, not all players do relate to what they do. The only request I would have is not to have more than two of the same class and ship in each video and links to builds used. You could tie this in to you build segments. While not all players want to do insane DPS there are some that want to tank and hold agro to allow DPS build to do there damage. Show off drain and crowd control builds.

I really like the idea of getting a specialization point as a reward. I haven’t bothered to grind specialization points, and I play very casually, maybe two hours a week. I gain maybe one specialization point a month. This would significantly increase my acquisition of specialization points. Thumbs up on this change.

Regarding Kenna’s concern about replays, I don’t mind it too much for high quality missions like the featured episodes, but it can get tedious sometimes. One possible solution would be some kind of wrapper mission that’s available once a week or once a day, like the bonus box for queues, except any qualified mission replay completes the wrapper.

I’m glad to see a consensus amongst you guys and the other responses so far.

I, too, have been recently fussing over repeating the featured episodes for gear. I love that the developers have upped the ante with the writing, the visuals and, of course, getting the actors to reprise their respective roles. But…
The developers don’t seem to realize that this being a game and that we, as players, are on ‘the never ending quest for epic loot’ and any new shiny that comes out ‘we.must.possess!’

So, like Kenna, I feel like we are “forced” (compelled, coerced, whatever word works for you) to replay these featured episodes to the point of hating them, or, at least very least, no longer getting any joy out of all the hard work and expense the developers went to (particularly when you consider doing it for all your alts).

A single “spiffy” item could rectify this, or a selection of items (ala Delta Flight) to encourage you to replay the mission, but not a specific set to make you feel like you “have to” run it multiple times.

And, to address Kenna’s other suggestion of returning set items as rewards to stfs. I would love that as long as it wasn’t random drops like during the early years. However, I’m sure the devs would argue that, in essence, that’s what the rep system is – in it’s own grindy way.

Maybe a bit of middle ground would be to have events (like we don’t have enough already :P) that offer gear for a very limited time. Instead of marks for running specific stfs, at the introduction of new ones let’s say, maybe we get rewarded something that would help us (a tiny bit) be able to complete these new stfs (be able to go from regular to advanced a little quicker/easier) – instead of us getting sets that makes us masters of those stfs after we hit t5 and don’t need it.

    Anyway, just some ramblings.
And I got to say, I am happy that I will no longer hear any disparaging remarks about Deep Space Best Trek (or DS9).

First Question, I agree with Kenna. Doing the same episode numerous times over the next few weeks becomes tedious especially when you have alts. Now with the Delta Recruit, I have been going into the previous featured episodes that give out the goodies and that is more tiresome than leveling 50-60, especially when I am completionist. Perhaps in the future, the Devs can follow Neverwinter’s lead and have the items be a part of an event store during a short event.

Hey, first up want to say I’m liking Kenna, she seems like a good addition to the team. Secondly, as far as featured episode rewards, I’m not overly fond of how they’re doing them now no. I miss the old days where you’d have a five episode series over a span of five weeks. At least that way you’re doing different things. I wasn’t crazy about having to do Blood of the Ancients so often to get the set and the upgrade. Don’t get me wrong, I’m looking forward to the spec points. I just wish there was more variety.

Great Show P1 as usual , missed hearing Elijah’s golden voice. But the Kenna ,Jayce and Kam did a great job.
(community question)as for the FE replays , if kenna thinks its bad with one character doing it 3 times ,think of doing it on alts for Fed,Rom,KDF, even our delta recruits after a while it can get you sour on the mission , rather than enjoying it . there long, Wordy (F spamy) very deeply story missions ,unlike PVE queues grindy Skirmishes. Cyrptic puts so many Special items and sets into the same FE’s if its split up into 3 or more Episodes rather than the same one would be less of a burnout on them .IE. the breen, and dominon story arcs.
thanks again for the show guys . LLAP
