Great show guys. Regarding the Iconian Resistance reputation, I have two characters who use Antiproton beam arrays and Quantum Torpedoes, so I’ll probably get the weapon set for them. The great thing about having lots of characters is that new gear doesn’t need to be useful to all of them, just some of them, to be interesting.

Love that opening skit. Made me laugh!

As for the new rep….My main Fed always gets the latest Ground and SPace gear. He’s what I call my “bleeding edge” guy. Always tring to to get the latest and greatest stuff. The rest of my toons will up the rep and get the gear, but probably place it on lesser ships and keep what they are are focuesed on now.

Right now, my main fed has his ship decked out in the Tier XIV purple Counter-Command Space set using Bio-Molecular Phasers Beam Arrays at Mark XIV Purple. His ground gear is all Delta Alliance Mark XII Purple gear. SO this is would a major change in his SPace set, as well as a regrind to upgrade all the gear to Mark XIV Purple again. Pluss I’d be going to AntiProton now so will have to change out all my tactical slots on my Phantom.

My Delta recruit, will probably first level Omega to get decent starting gear and then not upgrade it till I can pick up the Iconian Rep gear. SO wouldn’t be losing anything here.

    Keep up the good work!

@elijah, if you F-key’d through the romulan stories you missed some great stuff. Do this: In this order replay Mind Games, then Installation 18, then Coliseum. Do NOT F-key through dialog, and in Mind Games, play it with the lights off and the sound on. In Installation 18, pay attention to the initial cut scenes where you watch what the Tal Shiar are doing to the prisoners and read the status report before editing it and sending to Hakeev. Listen to what the prisoners you rescue say they went through. See what you think about Coliseum after that and in particular, Slamek’s motives in Coliseum. In fact, if you do this I will make you the summary of the plot you asked for.

@Cookie tragically, there are no female gorn shown on screen. They only appear 3 times, 1 in Arena fighting Kirk, 1 in the animated series sitting at a desk in a council meeting, and 1 as a background character in Enterprise “In a Mirror Darkly”. Gecko once joked that since in many reptile species the females are bigger the female gorn are already in the game: they’re the big topless ones walking around First City. Several players have asked for the male/female to be removed from Gorn and just make it impossible to tell the difference. A solution I think would be very novel.

Elijah has Retention Deficit Disorder? Figures. XD

Normally I try very hard to prove that you /don’t/ need Antiproton weapons to “be the best.” Currently my ships are centered around different weapon builds for my different captains. My Reman science uses a Destabilizing Tetryon build. My Fed Science uses a Protonic Polaron build and my new Delta recruit, Romulan Tactical, will be using a pure Romulan Plasma setup.

Good DPS or strategy can come from anywhere and the more Cryptic throws enemies and rewards with Antiproton damage at us it makes me want, that much harder, to prove you don’t need it.

There is no reason to use the Counter-Command set to boost phaser damage if you are not using a weapon that does phaser damage. The TR-116B does not do pahser damage and should not get a buff from the Counter Command set, the TR-116B does kinetic damage.

    • Jayce on 2015-04-16

Yeah I misspoke on-air. I swap in the Adapted MACO Pulsewave depending on the ground content and that’s what I use the Phaser bonus for. The more important factor in the 2-piece bonus is the 5% Crit change boost which is huge.

I BROKE COOKIE! HOORAY FOR ME!!!

Wonderful episode everyone, prepatching is live so we should see season 10 soon.

As for the new rep, until the queues are better at elite, i wont be too energized over new reps.

This episode had me do some speculation about the Iconians.

The Galactic Barrier and the fact that it gives you god-like powers was brought in this episode. A thought about this came to mind. While the barrier does give powers, it also has a way of damaging the mind.

This made me think that maybe the Iconians were once a kinder, gentler race. Then they fled the galaxy for some reason through the barrier. Gained the impressive powers that were seen in Surface Tension but now there minds are warped and distorted. It does not help that they spent 200,000 years thinking about Iconia and wanting a return to the good, old days (refer to the entry on Iconia in Sphere of Influence).

If they were a benevolent people perhaps they now feel betrayed, victimized, and taken advantage of. They may want revenge against the residents of the Milky Way for the sins of their ancestors.

Of course, this is speculation and Cryptic may have other story plans for the Iconians.

    Great show 🙂

Looking forward to the new reputation, some of the ground gear looks pretty sweet 🙂

Is it just me or is it hard to keep track of all the different reputation sets in the game? Maybe we could have separate tabs in the inventory for sets only.

Another great show and bloopers. Wine anyone? :p

Great show as always. Almost got in trouble at work for giggling because I was listening over a Bluetooth head set and the boss thought I was giggling at him.

Anyway, I’ve found that the biggest problem with most low dps players is the gear. Some are still using green and white mk x gear. And many that are still using mk 12 gear shouldn’t. A good solid player using mk 12 gear WITH mk12 rep and fleet gear is ok in normal queues. But generic green mk 12 gear is not ok for advanced. If those player would just upgrade to mk 14 even if it was green quality those players would be much much more successful. Most players don’t understand that when Geko says mk12 should still be ok that he means higher powered purple rep and fleet gear. Not greens and whites. Besides its not like its expensive to get to 14. Not like it is to get to gold.

    • GavinRuneblade on 2015-04-15

Actually, this is totally false. Mark 10 white gear is good enough to hit over 15k which is nearly double what’s needed for advanced difficulty.

The biggest issues with people running below 3k are:
      1. Shooting from 10km instead of point blank range
      2. ship power settings on “balanced” not “full power to weapons”
      3. weapons not set to autofire
      4. build uses boff powers like boarding parties or viral matrix or mask energy signature that are currently very weak
      5. mis-timing critical powers like Tactical Fleet or Go Down Fighting or a science captain’s aoe sensor sweep

These right here are the big problems. #1 and #2 alone can more than triple damage if someone’s doing it wrong, lifting a 3k player to ~10k without changing or upgrading a single piece of gear.

@Jayce: nice to know someone else who is actually reading the IDW comics =P

A note for future reference if you plan to keep doing these reviews on the show: there are certain volumes later on that do not fit in numerically as they are not part of the ongoing numerical line. 2 examples so far are “Countdown to Darkness” and “Khan”, both of which were their own mini-series and not part of the normal numbered ongoing series.

As someone who has, and has read, them all, I would put them in the following order:

    A) Volume 5

    B) Countdown to Darkness (which takes place right before the movie)

    C) Khan (which takes place right after the movie)

    D) Volume 6 (which takes place shortly after the movie)

I am especially interested in hearing your review of “Khan”, as this story made the movie “Into Darkness” make *so much* more sense(although the reverse death scene at the end is still inexcusable).

Anyway, I enjoyed your review and look forward to hearing more.

    • Jayce on 2015-04-13

Thanks for the tip! I have Khan and I /think/ I have CtD around here somewhere. If not I’ll grab it when we get to that point. I enjoy the comics generally, they can be hit or miss sometimes like the novels — but aren’t even the shows like that? 😀

Finally, a episode where you guys talk about the Gorn! Woo! Cookie understands the Gorns plight… where are the females?

I might check out those traits but the gear I will wait, it has to look… and feel good.
