I really enjoy the podcast; thank you for all of your work and enthusiasm. Now for my comments:
I’ve been crafting since the beginning, and have level 15 in all r&d school for at least one character. Since the upgrades, raw materials, and energy credits can be transferred in my account bank I have predominantly limited in my upgrading only by the very rare materials and dilithium. I’m ok with this.
The Level gates for the DR missions hasn’t been much of a problem after my first character went through it. Between the Mirror Universe Excursion and normal DOFF missions my other characters are ahead of the curve, with one at level 57 and not even having started with Mindscape yet. However, I do admit that it was frustrating when it happened.
I feel a great sense of accomplishment whenever my ships level up. Even though I bought the DR pack I have been enjoying my T5U ships much more (although I haven’t tried the Guardian cruiser yet).
Once again, thank you for a great show.!

Hello PRIORITY ONE. I found your show at about episode 150 and I have to say its got me HOOKED. Cant start my week without my Monday PRIORITY ONE episode fix…Just saying..GREAT SHOW..

Just my 2 cents and 2 words on the new upgrading system…

    TO0 DAM EXSPENSIVE!!!

My bad thats 3 words lol.

I have a Hazari Destroyer with 5 gold Vulnerability Locator Consoles and one gold fleet antiproton duel heavy cannon. Trying to get the fleet duel heavy cannons to gold is a level of total ridiculousness. It’s 216000(I think) xp to get a full fill on the cannon and it gives you like 1 to 2 percent each fail. Come on 1 to 2 percent.

I dont think that getting 10 percent each fill would be too much to ask.

I have seen players leaving left and right. And I understand why..Its become less fun and more frustrating than it needs to be.

They should have left the game alone and just added their new content and lockbox shinys and let us continue to have our fun..

Change can be a good thing but in this case I dont think these changes are working for most players including myself.

Its becoming a sinking ship. They better find a life raft read dam quick.

    ok enough of the rant…

Btw Did I say I love the show..Oh yea I did already.

Great episode and amazing interview. As a player with limited play time but a lot of characters (14 to be exact), I’m excited for any changes coming that would make it easier to upgrade equipment on alternate characters. I loved the Reputation Sponsorship system when it came out, and I think something similar for the gear upgrade system would be a great step in the right direction. I’m really enjoying the new R&D and Item Upgrade systems.

Yeah, looks like the game is wrapping up. The only reason I have still logged in is because I bought a life time membership. The game is an insane grind fest at this point.

  11. Wardcalis on 2014-11-25

I think normals shouldhave a 50% chance to reward 1 very rare, advanced always rewards 2-3 very rare and elite always gives 5 random types

  12. Marcase on 2014-11-25

Just want to add that this was a great podcast and that the interview was badly needed, if not to (try to) put out the flames then at least give an insight on how the Devs are looking at the crafting system.

Change is hard, especially for players -like me- who were Top Gun level 50 with purple mk XII gear and an armada of fleet/lockbox ships, who are now forced to share the backseat with the ‘common folk’ having to level up to 60. Our somewhat elitist attitude has come around and bit us hard, and I guess that’s where a large part of the anger is coming from. I don’t mind having to invest time to level up, as that’s a standard rule in any MMO, but many players don’t have the luxury to play +2 hours every day trying to manage their alts, crafting, farming and oh yes, play and enjoy the Delta episodes.

Many players (again, like me) love their ships, and swap ships and loadouts to fit the mission or just to experiment. That has been taken away from us, as now we’re forced to focus and specialize on just one.
Making our hard earned ships and consoles obsolete, even after upgrading to T-5U, due to the time it takes to upgrade to XIV (nevermind PVP-level) is a very tough cookie to swallow.

Bragging Rights are optional?*head tilted sideways*
Not to mention that epic mk xiv will be needed for when they do the next new level cap.As good as cryptics logic is, i dont think Jesses words will get much traction with the fans.
Love C47, love the new gear, i will try to post a pic on the STO website.
Those jokes in the end bit deserve to have been in The Muppet Show, they are that bad.

    Wonderful work everyone.

Very nice episode. am glad to hear they’re aware of most of the current issues. Hopefully they’ll address the PvE Queue Skill Point issue soon, didn’t hear em mention it. We’re currently getting about 1/10th of what is expected from PvE Queues based on the original Tribble Patchnotes. Got a thread discussing it here: http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=1303931

As of me typing this, there are 19 Total PvE Queue Instances active (Private and Public), vs 37 Argala Instances. If you factor in other patrols, the list gets quite big. I believe that if PvE Queues rewarded what they’re supposed to, players would be pulled back from patrols and back into PvE queues, where players are desperately needed.

And as for the question. Club 47 is a nice addition, I know quite a few are enjoying it. I’m personally a fan of action, so it’s not the biggest thing for me, but I do appreciate the work and detail put into it. Especially that Desperate Trill 🙂

    Another great episode.

It’s great to hear they’re dropping costs and looking at a discount policy towards multiple alts.

    ‘Infamous Infographic’ – *snicker*

It did exactly what it was intended to do. It confirmed what many have been experiencing. It forced Cryptic to talk more about costs and multiple alts – something up til now they have ignored publicly. Where you might not have agreed with the concept or format – it certainly got the conversation rolling.

We paused production on the next infographic because of the price reduction – AND we’ll update the IG to reflect the new changes.

as he said – ‘everything is in a state of flux’

We want the game to succeed. we’re fans. But to be successful, they need more planning, and more interaction with the state of the players game.

as he said ‘you’re not screaming into a vacuum’

And that’s awesome. Our voices (and yours as well) – the many on the forums, Facebook, Reddit, twitter – do make an impact.

Keep up the great work. Your pod casts are an amazing way to get insight they’re unwilling to share in the forums.

Heck I might even donate 😉

First up, I want to say congrats on reaching 200 episodes, I’ve really been enjoying the show when I get a chance to listen. Next up, I’d like to just mention, if I could, that for me, I always find the dilithium refining cap to be frustrating. Getting all the ore is well and good, but deciding if I want to spend it upgrading my fleet, or upgrading my gear, is crazy making. I get that it needs to be controlled, but really, 8 K is nothing compared to all the places we need to spend it. I still think a bump to gold and life time members would be fantastic. Keep free 8K, bump gold up to 12K, and lifers to 16. It’d be that much more of a perk to sell those life subs, and would make it easier to get dilithium for the gear upgrades

  25. Vivienne Anthony on 2014-11-24

Since they mentioned nothing about the problem in the new patch notes. I’m assuming everything is working as intended. Grind fest STO and the Geko in charge of it all.

  26. Ferlot on 2014-11-24

I have not spent anything on upgrades yet. At first, I wanted to just grind and stockpile dilithium, while leveling up my R&D at the same time. Eventually I realized just how steep the upgrade curve has been set, which is a real turn off for me.

I also don’t like how this upgrade system forces people to stick with one build. Someone (like myself), enjoy changing builds every once in a while, from a beam build to a cannon build, or a torpedo build. To continue doing that, it involves so much more than just upgrading the one build I am using now. I am also one of those players who enjoys playing a character in all three factions too. The hill is so steep, I pretty much have accepted that I will probably never be at the level I was before this expansion hit.

Honestly, for the first time in LOR came out, I have started playing another MMO. I am just unsure if I feel like climbing a hill so steep, only to face the idea that I would have to put so many more resources into it should I decide I want to change builds. I don’t enjoy grinding for dilithium as much as I used to, so my future in this game is pretty cloudy right now.

  27. Wardcalis on 2014-11-24

Let me add to that… It has been over 2 years since LOR launched and to this day, romulans still only have 1, just 1 bridge option for all romulan ships. Absurd considering that BOTH fed and kdf have DOZENS. /end rant

    • Marcase on 2014-11-25

Well, there is the Scimitar bridge 🙂

Truth be told, I wish ALL bridges and ship interiors were like the standard Romulan one; the Roms ship’s decks are gorgeous, especially compared to the very dated Fed standard interior.

  28. Wardcalis on 2014-11-24

Good show as always, I find myself in the same boat as many others, I have decided to take a break from STO until this is “fixed”. Checking out the new wow expac while I wait. I will keep up on the game by listening to you guys till I come back 🙂

I think crafters should be able to craft “Tech Manuals”. For example a ‘Projectile Tech Manual” once used and consumed by the character will increase projectile tech points gained from upgrades by 1/3. so +1 point for every 3 gained. This would also reduce the cost by an additional 1 point for each character on the account that has learned this manual capping once its at +1 per point. So effectively double.

To prevent this from being abused, I think you shouldn’t be able to use the manual until you have at least 1 CRAFTED mk14 the the manual type on that particular character.

The upgrade cost is a major deterrent to my continued play but I find i’m being driven from the game more because of faction favoritism. Feds now have 6 t6 ships while Rom and Klingon only have 2 t6 ships. Big middle finger to those factions when they did the intrepid bundle. They should’ve introduced at least 1 ship for both of the others 1st.

2nd star on the right, and straight on till morning.

  29. Krag on 2014-11-24

another question for next week for Geko is why release ten new levels with about 2 levels worth of content?

    • Wardcalis on 2014-11-25

I agree with krag, why launch with 2 levels worth of content and make it so grindy and unrewarding to push through that grind

  30. Krag on 2014-11-24

Why don’t they think of these thing before DR launched? It’s too late anyway they killed their own game! All these “things” they are “looking” at should have been looked at already they just wanted to see how far they can push the players, well they pushed them out of the of the game.

  31. Vivienne Anthony on 2019-01-30

Since they mentioned nothing about the problem in the new patch notes. I’m assuming everything is working as intended. Grind fest STO and the Geko in charge of it all.

  32. David Desjardins (@creativegeek_ca) on 2014-11-24

I’ve spent $100 USD on zen (dil), most of my stored materials and components from 1 year of saving, and over 250 million EC across 7 alts, only 2 of which is fully upgraded. Another is about 80% upgraded with, with the remaining 4 at about 30% upgraded.

I have level 1 toon to 60 through DR, 4 to 60 with doffing & MI only, with the remaining 2 at 58 (again from doffing only).

At this point the game is about personnel management for 1 hour a day.

    Queues are still empty.

    • Tom on 2014-11-25

Yes, the example Gorganzola gave in the show was absurd. He stated “You shouldn’t look at it as though it might take 360,000 dilithium to upgrade ALL your gear”

What a joke. I tried it on tribble. It takes over 2,000,000 dil just to upgrade 1 weapon to gold, so we are talking about 44 MILLION DILITHIUM!!!!! to upgrade one ship using vendor tech upgrades.

      • Vivienne Anthony on 2014-11-27

How is that possible? I have been able to make two gold tactical consoles with less then 50,000 dilithium? Actually I think it was less.

        • Lord Keen on 2014-11-27

I tried to get my level 14 ultra rare 360’o beam array to an epic level.
I tried this on the last R&D weekend couple of weeks back. It cost me 300,000 dill, I beought 4 1000 zen R&D packs and used up all the catalists from them and I beought 80 superior beam upgrade tech form the exchange.
And I never got to epic. 🙁

          • Vivienne Anthony on 2014-11-27

During the R&D week before the release. The queues especially the Borg ones was dropping superior upgrades so I got 30+ from that. I had a head start. Additionally, I’m fleet admiral in two fleets so I have access to very rare MK MXII gear. Also, doing the DOFF’s to tier 4, help so I got the nice blue and purple research lab specialist. The latter can cost cost a lot.

They should’ve introduced at least 1 ship for both of the others 1st.

2nd star on the right, and straight on till morning.

another question for next week for Geko is why release ten new levels with about 2 levels worth of content?

    • Wardcalis on 2019-01-30

I agree with krag, why launch with 2 levels worth of content and make it so grindy and unrewarding to push through that grind

  37. Krag on 2019-01-30

Why don’t they think of these thing before DR launched? It’s too late anyway they killed their own game! All these “things” they are “looking” at should have been looked at already they just wanted to see how far they can push the players, well they pushed them out of the of the game.

The Aero Shuttle (or Aero Wing) was never used because it was felt that it was too close to the Captains shuttle.

It was also based on the Runabout and would have used the same set but it didn’t look aerodynamic enough so they made the Delta Flyer. Which is kinda fun when you rewatch Paris talking about the Delta.

As for the upgrade system i dont know the answer. All i know is alot of my mates who where playing or my fleet its gone from me and a few to me and 1…. if that. I also am playing 12 hours (or more) so i have really noticed people going away because their not having fun.

I hope some changes come soon because i want this game to keep going.

      I changed my Mind.

I DID THE NUMBERS WITH THE POWER OF MATH… and something is horribly wrong.

I felt the XP was bad but i had no idea tell i started to run with a new toon. I ran Dominion, Breen, Borg arcs and only level… wait for it. 1.5 level.

Now doing the maths to max out a toons. Argala Normal are only used as they have been promoted as the reason we have these patrols for level and gaining XP.

6490 xp is was is given in one run normal
so to 150k xp would require =24 runs
      150K times 60 = 9000000
60 spec points it will require 1386 runs

That’s right 1386 solo Argala runs required to max out specs.

To put that on another term.

Casually doing 1 Argala run each day you will finish leveling in 3.7 years

15 times would be 93 days

85 runs each day for 2 weeks on one toon.

THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM! People are living and there right to do so! Please please talk about this!

Wow! So I just want to make sure I understand what you are saying, how many different missions did you do? And only leveled up once? So you finished several missions and you were still only at level 1?

        • sanokskyrat on 2014-11-26

Yes cookie. I did ALL Cardassian, Borg and Breen levels. New toon level 50, first play through on all missions. Only got one level from it. 150000 point is needed for those level after 50.

I will make level a talaxian again (against my better judgement and make a video.

      • Vivienne Anthony on 2019-01-30

How is that possible? I have been able to make two gold tactical consoles with less then 50,000 dilithium? Actually I think it was less.

          • Vivienne Anthony on 2019-01-30

During the R&D week before the release. The queues especially the Borg ones was dropping superior upgrades so I got 30+ from that. I had a head start. Additionally, I’m fleet admiral in two fleets so I have access to very rare MK MXII gear. Also, doing the DOFF’s to tier 4, help so I got the nice blue and purple research lab specialist. The latter can cost cost a lot.
