Once again, we hear from Star Trek Online’s Lead Designer, Al “Captain Geko” Rivera who joins us for a discussion about the new Item Upgrade System. We are then joined by Systems Designer Phil “Gorngonzolla” Zeleski in his Priority One Podcast debut to talk about the new Tier 6 ships and upgrade systems coming to Star Trek Online with Delta Rising!

But first, we Trek Out Enterprise In Space – a grassroots earth-orbiter and science education project inspired by works of visionary authors and creators like Gene Roddenberry. In STONews the new Delta Reputation system is live on Tribble, as well as access to most of the rewards — and we’ll be giving you our preliminary assessment. We also have two art related blogs discussing the design of the new Intelligence Ships as well as the creation of the iconic Voyager Master Systems Display. We also discuss Neelix’s involvement in the Delta Quadrant, the announcement of the super-secret ship in the Delta Operations Pack, and Double XP until the launch of Delta Rising — Oh, and speaking of launch, they’ve finally announced the official date for Delta Rising!

Later, we’ll open hailing frequencies and see what’s incoming from you — our listeners!

In case you missed it – you can catch the STODev Panel – in its entirety – during episode 184 of Priority One Podcast!

I really enjoyed your interview with Gorngazola.

I’m definitely looking forward to all the new ships, but I have to agree that I think there are way too many endgame ship Tiers. We have T5, T5-U, Fleet T5, Fleet T5-U, T6 and the (already confirmed) Fleet T6. I realize it’s a weird attempt to try and make the T6 ships better but not make T5 ships worse, but it’s just extra complication. Just make the T5-U ships T6. They don’t need the bell and whistle specialization, those can remain an exclusive for the new ships, but it eliminates two of the superfluous ship tiers.

One other concern I have listening to the interview, is whether a new player who hasn’t shelled out Zen for a T6 (or T5-U) ship will have any hope of being effective in the new elite queues. We have quite the gap forming between top and bottom, and a chunk of that gap is behind a paywall. I won’t even mention PvP.

Now I fully admit, I’ll be buying new shiny ships regardless, but I do play with free players and I’d hate to not be able to play elite content with them just because they haven’t shelled out 3000 Zen for a T6 ship. I don’t want to see a divide between free and paid players, be cause we paid players will suffer as well.

Anyway, thanks for letting me get that off my chest. Great show as always and I’m looking forward to your upcoming trip to Cryptic. Keep up the good work.

One of my largest concerns about the upcoming expansion is equality between the factions. Understandably Klingon and Romulan factions are newer and so, not as fleshed out as the Federation. But now of all times is the time to move forward with a balance between the factions. With the introduction of the ship traits Romulan and Klingons are getting left out in the cold. Feds now have access to 5 traits out of the gate while Romulans and Klingons are limited to 2 each. Assuming 4 can be slotted, Federation has actual options vs the Rom/KDF who can only fill half the tray. Thus hardly seems fair, never mind the fact federation is getting 5 top tier ships vs the 2 the others are getting.

Now I bought the operations pack. I got the Legacy of Romulus pack and found it was a good deal, not to mention they added to it after I’d had it awhile. Even still, I’d really appreciate more equality between the factions. The reason the discrepancy seems so large is the few number of ships released so far. Al has let slip now and then that a dedicated Romulan carrier is in the works as well as a Rom Sci ship. I hope those get added to the Operations pack BEFORE Delta Rising launches

    • Maelstrom on 2014-09-22

I agree wholeheartedly. I have a Romulan and two KDF characters. I want to fill up my ship traits just as much as any federation players. P.S. more Nausican ship designs please, I love my Garumba and I’m sad there is no fleet version.

      • Wardcalis on 2014-09-23

Speaking of ship traits, since ships are faction specific have the devs mentioned how players can attain traits on ships from other factions? My Fed allied Romulan would kill for the trait found on the Mat’ha Raptor.
