I’m satisfied with what I’ve heard on this podcast about upgrading T5 ships. (not in crafting)

In so far as T6 ships having something unique, The science dreadnoughts are unique, but they coexist quite nicely with the current line of ships.

In other words, they didn’t make the other ships obsolete.

Hoping T6 ships are handled like that.

I am looking forward to the entire expansion Delta Rising. All of it. The new ships, the level cap increase, new gear and a new area to explorer.

That is right to all those STO player’s who were worried and crying about exploration. What more can you ask for when you get next content to “Explore”?

All the dooms day talk about the T6 ships is beyond me. How is this any different from the comparison of T4 to T5 ships. There is none. It just means that you will now have to work again for top end ship s and gear.

I personally just got my main to what I would consider to be end game gear status and am now working on my DPS. I welcome the opportunity to work further on my build and possibly even a new T6 ship. Bring on the new content!

What I am not happy about is the lack luster response from the Devs and their slow release of information. Stop releasing information stating you are going to release information.

I did really enjoy how they formatted the Intelligence Briefing though, that was clever.

Except for some worries about the So What, comment I enjoyed the show.

I have an ultra-nitpicky comment about Neelix’s conversion. Neelix’s mess hall was never the Intrepid Mess Hall, it was the Captain’s Private Dining Room.

I knew some people who (after launch)for them the old “exploration” system was a deal breaker. Youtube game reviews like Angry Joe, who was very positive and gun ho for the game… left never to return. I myself left the game for many reasons at launch but because of shows like P1 and youtube lets play i returned.

But i think it is something we as a community have to address. If you type Star trek online you get the same reviews for 4 years ago and PEOPLE still think this was the game is like.

I myself i hoping to make lets play videos but i still believe those old reviews dont help the game.

As for the new ships, it doesnt feel trek enough for me. I like going around with my IP ships. I know some people dont agree. OLD 60’S TREK FANS HATED OR LOVED TNG WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT… but all of it ended up cannon.

Too me a fed ship has to be smooth. This one reminds me of the love child of a borg cube and Prometheus. Not trying to troll. I love the work the crew at STO do but if thats what help want and that what keeps the game going great.

Delta rising however now has me worried. We were promised lot of blogs (40) and we got 1 week and still nothing (I at least though we have a few character reports by now or something). I fear the silence.

What I’m most excited about? That /SEXY/ Romulan ship. I want to transport cookie on it’s bridge and just cloak off into a Sumarian Sunset.

But seriously though I’d like to talk about something serious that very few people are talking about. The new skill tree! We’ve been seeing for the past few updates that certain things we’ve known and grown around has changed drastically, like reputation traits, as they were tweaked to be independent of the current tree. I am looking forward to this new system, testing all it’s aspects, and helping new and old players alike get used to this new “endless” skill tree and all the benefits that will go with it.

I’m glad they are adding some content, ships, and everything else.

    So, that’s the good!

My biggest worry is T5 ships becoming obsolete compared to T6 ships.(Cryptic needs to give us facts not speculation.) Some ships grow on a player and the ship might become the Lady like the Enterprise. Being forced to not be able to use it because of some T6. Sucks!

Also, higher ships suppose to be higher quality. The best of the best. Are they going add T6 ships to the fleet store with a 10/15% boost. Meaning, will Cryptic make it a pay-to-win only system for ships.

My other problem is the single play push. Star Trek was founded based on teamwork and usually the rouge players was the bad. Your crew was your team. The Federation, Klingon, and Romulans are teams with their own teams with sub-teams. So ripping that out the game is not Star Trek.

    Project Axanar
Awesome! I so think this would have been a better Star Trek TOS preclude, It’s awesome.

I have my issues with giving Cryptic $$$ but Axanar $$$. I’ll give them my money.

    @Elijah
I mentioned I get back to you about procedural created worlds.

    This is my pet project.

The developers created some perlin noise feature which I mentioned in the past. I’m playing with the code.

So, in my personal project. Procedural created environments(world space) can be done onthe client side. I think it would be like Genesis in some ways for client side simulations. Ironically, what I mentioned is past is very doable but as I mentioned. I mention it again sometime.

Loved the episode everyone. I was so pleased with all of the coverage from STLV.

As for DR, im looking forward to the new game tech; i.e. new doff subclasses, tier 6 ships, and the new advancement system.

Can’t wait for Axanar to be out.

P.S. That blooper set left me with a syncing feeling.

As far as what I’m looking forward to, I would have to say it is the talent trees. In games like the old World of Warcraft (to me WoW died with Cata) and Rift, I found the talent trees often times to be more entertaining than the actual gameplay. I’ve always considered myself a serious theory crafter and enjoy spending hours pouring over one spec or another.

But as for what I am concerned about, I would have to say it’s the focus the development team may have towards things that many, including myself, may find trivial. I don’t give a flying rats patootie about the interior of the intrepid, especially not when all Romulan ships have the exact same interior with no options. And we can’t even sit in the ready room chair lol. To me for the apparent amount of time they invested in the intrepid bridge they could have designed 2 or 3 Romulan bridges and ship interiors that players could have chosen between.

I do agree with what you said about having multi-player options for story content. But I would like to propose it be taken a step further. I would absolutely love to see organized game content equivalent to raiding that you see in other MMOs. To me it would be one of the strongest reasons to have a fleet. and to keep things on a level that would allow casual players equal access to the content it should be designed with a standard version puggable in standard Que and an elite version that would be run by an organized fleet. They should drop the same item to difficulty disparity that exist in the current stfs and it shouldn’t be gear, it should be Rep and/or fleet cred.

PS I also hope torp boats get some love. Why oh why oh why do beams, ground weps, and cannons all get to choose their energy type for the special crafted level 15 item. But for towpath its plasma only. I’d honestly much rather have an arc angle increase than a cloud, I think that torp would have been better as a rep item and you should have been able to craft 135 degree arc torp of any chosen base torpedo damage type.

I was very disappointed with Elijah’s take on T6 ships eclipsing T5 ships, especially the flippant ‘So What?!’. Seriously, this is STO, not WOW.

    • Jo-Na'taan - Serenity's Grasp Fleet on 2014-08-12

Brian, I agree that Elijah was a little harsh, but the plain fact is that STO needs to make money. As a FTP game they have to put out that carrot. For me it was the Vesta. Now that I have spent real money I am concerned about my Vesta. But the T6 ships could be so great that I have to drop some Zen on a new one. I think it will be ok though, I trust the Devs. In fact I would not be surprised if we get a chance to earn a T6 ship during our journeys in the Delta quad.

    • The_Grand_Nagus on 2014-08-13

Its easy to say “so what” to something that doesnt bother you personally. Its obvious Elijah is just fine with the whole T6 ship issue, and thats great. But trivializing other people’s concerns just because they dont bother you personally, well, isnt cool. I’m sure if there is an issue he is upset about at some point in the future, telling him “so what” wont be what he wants to hear. I know he means well though so I dont fault him for saying something on the fly on a podcast thats recorded live.

      • Elijah on 2014-08-13

I’m not trivializing. I simply don’t understand the argument. Yes, we’ve all spent our personal – hard earned – money on building our ships. How different are new T6 ships in comparison to new ships released in the game? When LoR came out, I don’t remember the argument being made that players should just magically receive a Top-Tier Romulan ship because they had already maxed out their Klingon or Fed. Delta Rising is expansion, progress, development. I don’t understand the difference between buying (or building) a new T5 vs earning and striving for a new T6.

        • Akirasensei on 2014-08-14

STO is a -roughly- TNG-era based Star Trek MMO. If I cannot fly my Vor’Cha or Nebula classes and be more or less fully competitive in endgame, it is NOT the game I, and many many others, want to play. Those FED-T6 designs showcased look super sleak and hyper-futuristic, and nothing like Trek. It is a Star Trek game. I want to fly CANON-ships and not be a looser by doing so. Period. If that is not -really- possible, I’ll stop playing, because it is a GAME for FUN, not a cell phone becoming obsolete, but you NEED a new one.

        • The_Grand_Nagus on 2014-08-14

Elijah, please =P You are a very smart person. Not agreeing with something is not the same thing as not understanding it. Cryptic is currently selling T5 ships in the game store for real money. If someone buys one of those ships today, they are paying for a top tier ship. However, that ship will only be top tier for less than 2 months until X2 comes out, then it wont be top tier anymore. Now I personally bought a T5 Excelsior a couple of years ago, so I got a lot of use out of my top tier ship purchase. But someone who buys one today will have their purchase devalued(aka not a top tier ship anymore) in approximately 8 weeks. I have a feeling Cryptic has some kind of plan for how that type of situation will be handled, but it is certainly a valid concern, and not hard to “understand” =P

          • Elijah on 2014-08-14

Did I not address that same concern on the show — as a matter of fact I did. I asked, “What do people do right now? Should they stop progressing through mechanics like the Reputation System.” We also addressed the importance of purchased ships (particularly Lock-Box Ships) being upgraded through a new system. So where did I miss the boat? I understand – exactly – the financial concern of obsolescence. However, I also understand that I don’t pay a monthly subscription to the game in addition to purchases of ships and gear. I also understand that I don’t have to pay for new content or expansions to the game. I understand that the financial bloodline of this F2P game is purchasable (or time-earned) items which will likely become obsolete over time like a l33t drop would be in a conventional subscription-based MMO. So, either, we agree to disagree on the value of in-game items or people aren’t conveying their concerns in a matter I can “understand” =P

        • The_Grand_Nagus on 2014-08-14

In response to your post made at 10:28 am, which for some strange reason is missing the “reply” button…

Like I said, there is a difference between not agreeing with something and not “understanding” it. You clearly “understand” the reasons some people are upset, even though you may not think they are valid. And I personally agree with your reasoning. But dont claim you cant “understand” why they feel that way even if you do not agree with their feelings =P

Great show as usual and thanks for the coverage of STLV!

Ok so to answer your question. My primary reason for playing STO is the continuation of the primary universe. so I am most excited to explore the Delta quadrant! There are so many stories to be told. Places to revisit and new worlds to explore. It’s gonna be fun!!!

My favorite part of “Prelude to Axanar” was in the opening of the documentary, where it said: “Narrated by John Gill” TOS fans might remember the episode “Patterns of Force” where He was featured as a Historian or Advisor who interfered with a Planet’s Culture and turned it into a replica of Nazi Germany. To a hard core TOS fan like me that was brilliant!
