First of all great show, great cast. I will be switching traits when going from space combat to ground combat. I have been doing some thinking about this (community questions usually do) and i suspect that there might be new traits in future due to the increased flexibility in the system. I for one look forward to experimentation.

    Ooh, where to start.

    1- New Kits.
More flexibility in what powers we take is nice (based on what frame we have admittedly), but I can’t see myself really being particularly enthused by it; I’m getting a new power slot anyway and it’s likely to be the only part I play around with.
I do think they could re-balance a few of the powers, say one or two for each class, like the Medical Tricorder, Photon Grenades and Shield Dome, things all officers are likely to have access to, just not necessarily expertise in. By reducing their current effectiveness by 25% then implementing a +50% bonus to their effectiveness when used by a character with the linked career they could make them extremely useful without taking away the benefit of a rounded team (such as it is).

    2 – Trait Swapping.
Wait! I can focus for Space AND Ground? Swapping at will (outside of combat)? When I heard this I felt feint and had to check if I was actually dreaming! Nope, I replayed that bit of the Podcast and, well, if they’re doing it, I love it!

    3 – Cut Scenes.
I didn’t know spacebar skipped them either, but more importantly, some of the cut scenes can’t be skipped at all, regardless of what you press; you HAVE to watch them, which is just… annoying, especially when you’re replaying missions or playing on an alt character.

    4 – Solo-Play vs. Team-Play.
All the early missions can be team-played, but the endgame missions are solo-only, which is kind of counter-intuitive given the endgame content is all team-play events. Jason is right about balance; there needs to be two difficulties for each PUGable event, an easy one for learning-the-ropes and a hard one where co-ordination is required, even if none of them can be failed, as such.

For the record, I’m all for a revamp of the death-penalties based on the current debuff system, but I don’t think it’s harsh enough. It shouldn’t outright kill a character or destroy ships and equipment, but it should debuff a character (or his ship) to the point that you HAVE to get rid of them to play. I remember doing an STF with a guy who’s damage debuffs scrolled off my screen. Any damage system that wimpy is not worth using. The Components and Regenerator Commodities system could probably be simplified (say one commodity for each minor, two for each major and three for each critical damage/injury, instead of three levels of components).

Lastly, Elijah has more than one fan; it’s the voice! I can listen to it for hours. Literally. I recently listened to Episodes 161-167 in a single sitting… I got behind. I’m sorry; life happened. I promise not to let life get between me and Priority One again!

Love you all and look forward to the next episode. LLAP.

I think the species trait revamp is going to be interesting, but I don’t know that I’ll be swapping them out on the fly. On some maps there isn’t a lot of time to mess with that. It would be easier if they’d let you have a “ground” and “space” preset that you change to automatically depending on the map.

And with the new ship swapping system I wish they’d take the zen cost out of skill changes. If I’m playing my Romulan and I want to fly her Mogai the skill setup I would use for that is very different to what I’d use on her D’deridex, but I can’t afford 500 zen every time I want to fly the Mogai. If it has to be paid for I wish they’d make it an EC cost or put the skill change token in a fleet store.

  6. Madd-Wolf on 2014-04-08

Hey All, I’m Still alive and always listening.
On the topic of hot swapping . I think that now that we are able to have a Load-out save on ships they should also implement the traits and rep-system passives into the load-out saves that way you can set up your ship/s with their own: Boff, Doff, Space set, weapons, (Space) Traits and Rep-system Load-out.
As well as the ground, now that the kits are customizable to some degree they should revamp the Ground skills tree with the same number of Space Skills to make your Captain better equipped for ground PvE and or PvP and get rid of the: “should I spec for Space or Ground” concept which hinders, In some cases, one or the other or both if you are trying to go for an all around Space/Ground Alt spec . So your ground Captain should also have a Load-out Save that consist of Boff (away team), Doff, Kit, Ground Set, (Ground)Traits, and Rep-System.
Having Traits and what not swappable is great and all but, the Skills tree is well over due for a revamp. The skills tree needs to FULLY support both Space and Ground depending on your Profession i.e. Tac, Sci, or Eng and for PvE and or PvP.
P.S. I miss you E, James, Elliot and Adrianne, keep up the AWESOME. Still YOUR #1 listener

I am kinda dual minded on the hotswapped traits system. On one hand, as a competitor, I like the idea of being able to min/max my traits and skills to what arena and ship I am playing in regardless of how many retrait tokens I have. This might actually be enough to get me to experiment with other ships besides my Beloved Vesta…

    Might… >.>

On the other hand, it does take away alot of the permanency that you see in other MMOs and in real life. Where you have to invest to change some core system of yourself. Slight RP-nerd issue, I know. But it is nice to feel some sort of commitment to your character and how he/she lives and interacts and evolved during your gameplay.

I for one, can’t wait for the new species trait system. Being able to outfit myself with all the skill, training, and ruthlessness of a true Gorn General; then beaming up and outfiting to honor the role of command… that sounds quite satisfying.

    A great show as always.

Good episode, little short this time, but sweet 🙂

Question: what happened with twitch recorded version from last night? Cant find it

We didn’t end up getting on Twitch last night. Sorry!

    Good episode as usual!

Regarding the new species trait system, though I haven’t test out in Tribble, but it does seems interest that we could actually change it without using the tokens anymore. At least now I can swap the traits I wanted, either ground or space, anytime I want, without thinking of exchanging dilithiums for zens anymore to get the respecs token.

And I’m still waiting for the animation for the Andorian antenna, if they’re still doing it.

I feel much the same way about the Rep. Passives swapping as I do for trait swapping. In the real world I can not change what traits I have been genetically given no matter how much I’d like to and such a change to my character traits makes them feel a lot less like traits and a lot more like another set of gear. In short, not in favor.

Also, I work tonight so I wont be online to chat but will be listening from the Trek Radio app for android.

Wonderful show everyone. Personally i cant wait for the new trait system, now if they can just add dual skill setups.

I have to agree with Cookie reguarding the Fleet member who doesn’t want to upset people, you really DO have to have a patient fleet. I felt the same way he did when I joined my fleet, but thankfully, they were patient and I ended up with that core group of friends i do missions with like Elijah pointed out.
