Topics Discussed

This Week’s Community Questions

  • Are features like hot-swappable ships, access to exchanges and banks in personal ships, and other conveniences killing Social Zones? If so, what ideas do YOU have to attract players back to Earth Spacedock, Qu’onos — anywhere else!
  • What do you think of the in-game event revamp? Did you make an effort to get in and play through an event? Was it any more worth it than the usual hourly events? What changes, if any, would you like to see from these events to make them more enticing?

I agree with TF Nightstalker. It would be awesome to have a character as, “if they ever do the liberated Borg race would be nice for a one time shot to have your liberated Borg a choice to stay fed or go with the freed Borg.” It would be nice to be in command of a Borg Sphere, a cube or a fusion cube would be awesome! Just think of the possibilities of a freed borg drone to be in charge of that kind of force/fire power.

Hey P1, great episode as usual. I get more news from you guys than I do Fox News…

Anyways, I believe with the new hotswap ship system in place, it will impact the social zones some. But as James was saying, you have to WANT to go to a social zone in the first place. A good way of doing this would be unique quick and casual daily missions to do there for Dilithium. Have each zone have a half dozen or so small missions to do each planet, that kinda fits the flavor of this planet. On Bajor, you could archive some religous text mini-puzzle. On Andoria, an Ushaan PvP minigame. Something that would make the planet feel unique and speak about the people who come from there.

There will still be RP holdouts like me who will not hotswap ships or call in the Azura frigate unless absolutely pressed to. These features are optional, and people will weigh the options for or against them individually. Personally, I think the spirit of an MMO is that the OPTION is there if you are in a hurry.

Just Like Ben Sisko would sometimes make a fancy meal by hand for guest, or sometimes will come in from a late shift and order from the replicator. Sometimes we take the high road, or the low road. That should the players choice. And I admire Cryptic for offering this to us.

Side note: The “community question music idea. I like the idea, as a signal that this is the big question of the week, but not the music itself. Maybe something a bit less game-showy 😛

    NO, NO, NO, NO, NO…

Loadouts will (randomly) place items back into your INVENTORY when you switch out of a loadout???

So, these will wind up being added to the TOP of my inventory? Right there with all the loot?

NO THANK YOU, I’m fine without, thanks, uh-uh, no.

Unless and until you let us mark items we own as “DO NOT SELL” (or some other sensible system of keeping us from ever selling off these items, like a loadout inventory/bag these items come from and go to) I will **NEVER** use this system. Nooooope.

I am looking forward to pages upon pages of hate and flame here on the forums of people selling off their loadout items from their inventory. Yeeeeah….

    Hey guys!

Amazing show, I loved the first part of the Geko interview and you could tell he was really happy with having D’Angelo on board. I was playing during the F2P transition and didn’t have a bad opinion of him (I say that because it seems some of the Community is major doom-n-gloom) but it was still nice to hear from Geko how much he likes his new boss!

As far as the new features.. I love them, but they won’t be killing social zones for me. It doesn’t matter what they put on my ship, I still like going to ESD, Romulan Command, or Qo’noS and seeing other players.

One thing I would like to point out about this though, and it was brought up in this episode I think, is that some people think it’s going to break immersion. I just don’t understand that argument. I have played tabletop RPGs for about fifteen years, at least, and in the earlier days of STO I participated in fleet roleplay and creative writing. From that standpoint.. it wouldn’t break my immersion at all.

It shouldn’t break immersion for anyone else either. So what if you can swap out ships in sector space? As far as lore for my characters is concerned they fly one specific ship and bridge crew, and if I ever decided to go back to roleplaying that’s the ship I would use for it; anything else is just plain out of character gaming fun.

I just think some people get too blindsided by the “in character” aspect of roleplaying and forget to step away and enjoy the mechanics of the game for what they are.

I don’t think these quality of life things will kill social zones in STO. They are pretty much dead anyway and are mostly like you guys said, “chore zones”. These zones to really be effective need to be mission hubs, jump off points for missions, and have social events. STO fails to have any type of meaningful social game so social zones are rightfully dead.

Now as far as the hourly events, yeah the crafting one and anomaly gathering ones were probably least used because the crafting game system in STO is so poor. Who want to have to pay a dilithium tax faster from a bonus? For those two hourly events to have had more use, the crafting system needs improvement.

wold like to see no lodeing sceen in Sector space so i can go from ESD to DS9 in one click

  7. Sanokskyrat on 2014-01-27

WOW guys! Just Wow! Mind blown. I dont remember the CQ at all.

      • Sanokskyrat on 2014-01-29

        Ah thank you.

Social Zones: They were never fun anyway. You cant kill something that’s already died. I meet people on Mission after doing all 4 STF’s or something like that or on channels other then “Zone”

Events: I am glad they returned to this. They give much better rewards and means i can find a team easier. Tholian are the worst right now. Finding a group is next to impossible.

if they ever do the liberated Borg race would be nice for a one time shot to have your liberated Borg a choice to stay fed or go with the freed Borg . i still would love a fusion cube in the game.
