In Star Trek Online and gaming news, Age of Discovery has launched on PC, we’ll give you our initial reactions and let you know what launch promotions are available.

Then it’s the return of On Screen, where we’re discussing the first Short Trek starring Ensign Sylvia Tilly, “Runaway”.

A long-time Trekkie, Elio has been watching the series since he was a child and sneaking in late night, back-to-back, episodes of TNG reruns. He finally embraced the Trekdom in college and spent many hours catching up on the entire multiverse…. instead of studying.

What are your first thoughts about Star Trek Online: Age of Discovery?

    Underwhelming.

Star Trek Online is supposed to be set in the future but we’re going back in time once again. I just hope we get steered back to the STO timeline sooner rather than later and that we get original content from the current time line

Victory of Life was a home run for STO while Age of Discovery feels like a weak attempt at a bunt. The lack of missions and other additions feels like Age of Discovery was rushed out the door before it was ready.

AoD is buggy in a way I haven’t seen from this game in years, I’ve crashed a dozen times since it’s release.

Sorry but Discovery is a strikeout for me.

    That’s a nice trailer. 🙂 Season 2 can’t get here soon enough.

Age of Discovery seems alright so far. The new missions were fine, and the random queues seem to be popping well enough, despite the initial pitchfork-raising response from the internet mobs. The new DISCO tutorial DOES feel heavily recycled from the main FED tutorial, though I don’t necessarily have a problem with that. I’d posit that it was meant for new players brought in by the new show anyways, folks who would have no prior knowledge of the other tutorials; the only peeps potentially bothered by it are us grizzled old alt-grinding vets. 😉 Besides, how many ways are there to tell a ‘fresh out of Starfleet Academy grad becomes a starship captain’ kind of story anyways?

Loved the show, everyone. As for Bio Bidet(sp?), you do realize it is an ironic match due to the old no restrooms on the enterprise trope?

I loved the addition of emotions on the faces during the tutorial, very immersive *in certain show host’s voice*.

I like the start of AOD, i hope they do well with the story. Not sure i care for the inclusion of TFO’s to the progression. As i’m leveling up i dont splurge for good gear, so i really did not contribute much to some of them. I started as a glass nerf gun, and progressed up to a hardened zombie at lvl 50.

    Hey all!

I enjoyed the AoD opening tutorial. I actually like the new HUD and interface as it quite honestly seems more modern than the default 25th century HUD and effects.

And I actually L-O-V-E LOOOOOVE the new scaling ship idea. I grabbed the Discovery starter pack. I really like the idea of 4 forward, 3 aft weapons that early on. And besides the hull and shields, the BOFF abilities actually scale as well. At levels 5-10 you can only use Lt abilities and below. 11-20: Lt Cmdr opens up, and 21-30, the commander engineering ability shows up. But I really like this approach because I am so sick of starting with that hand-me-down Miranda class. If they made a level-scaling Miranda similar to the Walker for the 25th century toons, I would be just as happy.

Side note: A work around for claiming the Tier 1 Walker during the DSC-tutorial is that I bought mine with a 25th century Fed toon. I then was able to reclaim the “Tier 1” Walker class from the C-store tier-1 ships tab with my DSC character (before I was out of the DSC era).

Hey guys, great podcast, as always!

Elijah, the bug in your tutorial has definitely come across from the old tutorial, which means it really is a copy paste. I’ve had it multiple times and the only option I’ve found is to delete the toon and start again. Grumble mumble.
