Elio is a Northern New Jersey Cuban-American and graduate of Kean University, having earned his Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Performance in 2011. He has performed in internationally renowned performance halls such as Avery Fisher Hall with the New York Philharmonic, as a member of the Westminster Symphonic Choir, and in Beijing, China as a representative for Kean University. Since 2012, he has had the wonderful opportunity to Executive Produce Priority One – the premiere Star Trek Online podcast. Whether recruiting, managing the global team of talented volunteers, arranging interviews with special guests, editing, web-development, finding sponsors, managing crowd funding, or writing content for the podcast, Elio has a hand in it all. A long-time Trekkie, Elio has been watching the series since he was a child and sneaking in late night, back-to-back, episodes of TNG reruns. He finally embraced the Trekdom in college and spent many hours catching up on the entire multiverse…. instead of studying.

I’d watch a standalone Sulu movie starring George Takei. Now I really want that to exist.

    Loved the show everyone.

cq1) TV movie, sure, theater, not so sure.
    cq2) No, that’s for streaming.

Not sure what part of the blooper real was better, Whiny voice, or the Banana song.

As much as I love both John Cho AND Sulu, as well as the other Trek stars, I’m not sure that any of those characters have enough of a draw on their own to merit their own solo Trek movie. Picard maybe, but then he’s getting a TV show, so there will be enough time to MAKE the audience care about his personal adventures, whereas a ~2 hour movie wouldn’t have that luxury. I can’t shake the idea that a solo Trek movie would just end up being like one of those Troi, O’Brien, Harry Kim, etc. -centric episodes of the TV series; so-so in quality, but LONG-GER. That doesn’t sound interesting enough for my movie ticket money.

I think Star Trek’s strength has always been in ensemble storytelling, where the characters have to play off of each other to solve the problems, as opposed to just waiting for lead character person to finally come up with the thing to save the day. Some movies can go that route, but you need a REALLY compelling lead to pull that off; most, if not all of our Trek friends do not fit that bill. Maybe they could get a feature short, like the upcoming Cadet Tilly adventures.

I would definitely watch a standalone movie, but I worry you’d have to use more than one main character, and if you’re going to do that, you may as well just make a Star Trek film and focus slightly more on a different character than Kirk. I would love to see more of Sulu moving forwards though, especially with his family.

I won’t be picking up the Disco Bluerays. I’m from UK so I get it on Netflix and thus have no need (at this time). If we get to the ‘end’ and the show is cancelled or runs its course then, if Blueray are still the in-thing, then maybe, but only for the whole series.
