One final thought.
The meme came in two parts, and Smirk only addressed the first part.
Yes, intelligent people realize Gecko’s comment that DR is the best expansion ever was taken by the community out of context from the podcast. But that’s to be expected, this is the internet afterall..
But it was likely taken out of context because it played into the second part of the meme that Gecko said without any sort of relevant context that can be defended or supported… evidenced by how Smirk avoided defending or even mentioning the second part of the meme.
“and the players love it.”
Yeah, uhm, the second part of the meme is why the meme hit so hard, and why the suggestion Cryptic was out of touch resonated to most players.
I also get it, it’s never fun to be featured in a parody video that features Hitler, but that video is the single funniest parody I’ve ever seen related to STO, and I nearly lost my coffee when that girl said “don’t worry, they won’t take away our cats.”
What happened to Charles Grey? His sewer updates were constructive and informative, then he disappeared.

I don’t like the skits, I skip it each time.
I like that they are improving the boff training, but I have a huge problem with adding a double time sink to it. First with 4 hour time gates, then with a currency that is time gated itself.
They didn’t add a time or dil gate to revamped episodes and other improvements or fixes. Why should they do this to a game function that was completely free?
What’s next, a 4 hour 500 dil project to craft ‘ship dedication plates’ to rename our ships in a flashy new interface?
Honestly, with all the extra grindy stuff added, I’m being bled to death. I’d say this is a bridge too far, but that was a couple bridges ago…

Smirk, did you actually wait for all of the others to say yes? I hope so because i have had plenty of time that i got the, what i call pop, “waiting for other captains” and the timer runs out.
Wonderful show everyone.
As for Skiffy needing you guys to be specific, he is the Audio ENGINEER, engineers dont do almost.

I would have to say the funniest part of the podcast this week was the whole “Armageddon” quote at 45:15. Keep up the humor everyone, even you Cookie. lol

30 seconds in the queues?
I wish you guys push the question a little more and ask what was queuing up for.
Because I got the feeling Smirk just stick to the normal queued events, or he had one very lucky day.
I just find it hard to believe that he queued up that quick when I see otherwise.
Thanks guys, Happy New Year!!

Another great interview. Thank you for asking questions with heft.
It’s unfortunate that a month and a meme have to pass before they clarify what was said. Gecko’s unscripted remarks did more to damage the perception that the team was out of touch with players in general than the 4 weeks of loadout glitches did.
Taco’s recent comments on the hurtful nature of the meme did not go unnoticed. Point taken.
For me I’ve never been concerned about the ongoing future of the game, but rather on the direction Cryptic is taking. The changes have had an effect at least with the people I used to play with. Things are reforming, but it’s a shame so many I knew left.
Hearing that they have a solid plan for the next year and that Smirk can’t wait to geek out and tell us is very reassuring and exciting. Who knows – maybe this may be the catalyst to get them back in the game.
As for the queues: However successful 1 guy testing may find the system, it’s not an accurate view if you limit yourself to one time during the busiest part of the day. That’s simply unrealistic. The good news is that they are listening, starting focus groups, and are at least committed to rebalancing them.
As for R&D – IMO it’s faster leveling by research. One alt has become a crafting monster having maxed out the proper doffs and attained lvl 15. The rate of development by crafting items isn’t as competitive whether your 5th or 15th level in a school.
And I’m not sure how much fun playing the crafting lottery is VS playing STF’s. Now that I have ‘some’ Triple D + Pen weapons, maybe I can get back to actually using them to blow stuff up.
Looking forward to your next podcast.

The revamp refers not to the Romulan Republic storyarc but to the Federation’s “Romulan Mystery” storyarc.
Thus, such does not occur. However, the new Arc does tie heavily into Romulan Republic player actions. (without spoilers, the new FED arc takes place after the Khitomer conference.)

Near the end of the show, the guy who suggested you should craft garage for crafting XP is wrong. Don’t waste your materials crafting a pile of crap that fills up your bag and will not sell on the EC exchange for profit.
You have to craft stuff for several hours at a financial loss to beat the 6000 XP daily. The only legitimate alternative is for those who are crafting the special higher level items that require the Xindi DOFFs, which is a very small group of players, and while you will get 18,000 XP for crafting those items ove a 20 hour period – you will using a few million EC in crafting materials to do create those items.
The 6000 XP crafting project is a bare bones minimal effort that crits for +1000 XP, for a total of 7000 XP, nearly every time. If someone can demonstrate a more realistic use of time and resources for getting more crafting XP – I’m interested in knowing about that technique.

Great show guys. You should hold a contest to see if people can recreate really old sitcom intros like sanford and son, 3s company, get smart, mary tyler moore… with sto environments and play
I’m looking forward to swapping in and out gravity well with a healing power and to swap torp spread 3 and beam oload 3.
Also just a thought with the revamp to the romulan story line maybe we can finally shoot Toven Kehv in the head and dump him out an airlock.
