I may have spoken too soon. I just got overrun by a Voth Bulwark in the mission Alliances. Took me more than an hour of painful deaths, and in the end I had to resort to a painfully slow hit and run tactic, taking him down a few percent at a time. The satisfaction when it finally went down was great though.

I don’t expect most experienced players to have much trouble with this though, having faced the Voth before, but I still think encounters like these are bad. The level of difficulty is too far above the rest, and for casual players like me who haven’t really gotten far enough into the Voth content to learn all the tactics, it could become a showstopper.

Hey there Priority One team!!! First, you guys are AMAZING! I’ve been listening to your coverage over the last couple of months and the coverage has been amazing in the run-up to DR’s launch, and made me aware of features in game that I never knew about!

STO is my first MMORPG (Don’t worry Cookie, you’re not alone!) and so far my experience of STO has been amazing.

I’ve seen a lot of griping about the “grind” between the levels, but honestly, it’s something I’m glad to see. I’ve been playing STO for about a year, and only had content to keep me amused for about three months, including the LoR expansion. Saying that, I’ve been involved with an RP fleet over the last couple of months and it’s made STO amazing. The DR expansion, on the other hand, is leaving me with a TON of content.

Even after I complete the story, I have the specialization trees to complete and I have the Starship Mastery trees to complete. I know a lot of people are going to call this nothing but “the grind” but to me, it’s additional content that makes the game interesting and gives me objectives to complete outside the RP aspects of the game.

My overall feeling of Delta Rising is hugely positive and that the Dev’s have done a great job with this release. Though there is a time investment in getting from 50-60…it’s giving me something to keep shooting for, but keep my RP going at the same time!

Again, you guys are awesome! Keep up the great work!

I like Delta Rising, but I might be biased since Voyager is my favourite Star Trek show. I’m just a casual player, so I haven’t sufferred from the level restrictions on the content. Keeping my DOFFs occupied earns me enough XP to level fast enough to always have a new patrol or story mission available when I have the time to sit down and play them, which is typically a couple of hours worth of game time three times a week.
I have no problem with the new difficulty level. It was a few steps above what I was used to, and I’ve died a lot, but all were doable on normal difficulty even in my seriously undergeared ship (an unoptimized mix of old blue and purple lvl XI and XII gear). Also, it may just be a change in my tactics from facing them head on to spiraling in, but they seem to have toned down the NPC-damage quite a bit during the last week as well. Before I had to use all my healing abilities to stay alive for long enough to take the enemies out. Now I just have to use them every once in a while and only die if I really screw up.

As a crafter, there’s also a few improvements I’d like to see in the new R&D. Aside from the already mentioned availability of rare crafting materials (I liked the old way better when we got them from critical successes in the scan minigame). I like the fakt that you have to build a lot of compontents to make gear, but the UI could also used some improvements to reduce the click fest. When massproducing items, it should only take one click to produce one more item of the same type as the last, not four or more clicks per item like I have to suffer through now. Also, the fact that all items of the same level in the same school use the same components is kind of a disappointment. I wouldn’t dream of building a power plant and a set of body armor using the same components in real life.

Great show as always. Listening to your shows makes the game even more enjoyable to play.

I think one of the biggest reason exp is so scarce and cost is so high is because of what happens after hitting 60. They want exp gain to be slow so that spec points are slow to come and more, the dil from capped specs they want very slow to come.

Salutations P1 , ive been enjoying all the content P1 has been putting out here and on Youtube , well done .
as for Delta R , story is great ( with exception of shopping with Neelix that could have been done a little differently)
I don’t think Patrols should be in the episode list they should be in the sector space contact options.
While a new character wouldn’t have these gate issues the returning players have them .As for PVE queues And even though I’m apart of a great fleet ,playing PUGs (thats Pick Up Group Cookie ) sometimes is a necessity. and with state of the game right now its practically not viable.
While I understand the need for newer content to use the new level cap I dont understand the need for older content to be so dependent on it .

Just listened to the show and enjoyed the discussion. About Elijah’s comments at the end about deciding not to discuss the exploit issue, two points. First, even if you dont want to cover the community reation, it is still worth discussing whether the devs handled the situation the right way, especially now that we know for a fact that they wrongly hit enough innocent players with their “fix” that they have now had to reverse the whole thing. Second, refusing to talk about the issue on the show, but then posting a long rant about it on the shows official website is a major contradiction. If you had just posted the rant on a separate personal blog would have been different, but refusing to tak about it on the show, then directing people to read your rant on the shows official website is… sad.

This is where we agree to disagree. I think you can rationally understand that a majority of our audience automatically downloads our episodic content via programs like iTunes. Blogs like the ones I wrote do not populate on that feed. You would have to go out of your way to visit the site to read the blog. I made a calculated decision based on metrics that help me understand our audiences. The rant was for listeners like you.

      • The_Grand_Nagus on 2014-11-04

Elijah, do you realize that in the *same* episode where you say you dont want to talk about the topic, you also say you have posted a rant about it for anyone who wants to read it? Whether someone has downloaded the show from itunes or this website, that is still an obvious contradiction when you say it. Either you want to talk about the subject, or you dont. Whether you do or not is completely up to you, but what bugs me is your double-talk on the issue. You are saying one thing on the show and then doing the exact opposite on the show’s website. I wish you would just make up your mind one way or the other and stop the contradiction. But if you want to contradict yourself, that too is your choice in the end. It is just disappointing to hear.

        • Elijah on 2014-11-04

Nagus, do you realize that I made *one* reference to it during Feedback? *Feedback* — because people wrote in asking for comment. It doesn’t contradict anything in any way. I didn’t want to talk about it on the show. I didn’t. If people wanted comment, they could reference a non-episodic Op-Ed about the subject.

          • The_Grand_Nagus on 2014-11-04

Ok, so let me just clarify a couple of things. This way I wont be assuming or speculating what you think or mean. What, exactly, do you not want to talk about on the show?

            A) the exploit itself

            B) the devs response/actions

            C) the community’s response

I think its obvious you arent going to talk about “A”, so I know that isnt really a valid option.

And just guessing here, but I can even understand why you may not want to talk about the community’s reaction, as talking about that doesnt really serve any purpose. People getting mad on forums is nothing new.

What I dont understand is why you would refuse to talk about what the devs did, and whether it was handled the right way or not. Especially now that we know their fix did in fact effect innocent people, unlike they originally claimed. Do you think it would make the devs look bad? Do you think the situation was handled perfectly and nothing could be done better in the future?

To me, the way the devs handled the situation is actually the most important part of the entire issue, and I do not understand why you would refuse to talk about it at all on the show. Could you please elaborate?

yea I think the mirror event is sweet I have 4 toons grinding it each day

I have also been doing missions on advanced and I have been doing pve’s on normal as advanced in pug is hard

I think the levleing up is better in some respects but to long between missions I am at lvl 58 and I have 3/4 of the way to get to lvl 59 so grind grind grind

also about the skills thingy you could do a question thing wear listoners can ask questions and then the pone team can give a response in ther next show

    Great mirror breakdown by Cookie.
Love the commercial, and cant wait for my new shotguns (16 in fact).I cant believe they forgot the delta marks, the devs did say they forgot the marks in the forums. I think they put the mirror event in now due to the complaint over xp/leveling to 60+.
    Welcome Back Dr Hurt!
I enjoy the new content and systems, i just wish there were more missions.Darn dr Hurt and his logic over new characters and levelgate! Not impressed by the grapple gun/rappelling, its just one mission.
I agree that the new advanced queue events are too much work for the loot. Im with Dr Hurt on the pugging, i feel too constrained for time to wait for a good group, and the advanced does not really work for pugging anymore.

    Wonderful episode everyone.

I think for the most part you guys have it right. The only thing I would change suggestion wise is not removing the cool-down at all when a mission is failed but instead have tiered rewards like in nws and fleet alert. With every optional or task withing the stf the player should be accruing rewards that finally gets paid out upon completion win or loose. There is nothing worse then failing a mission on the last objective and getting nothing.

I really appreciate Cookie’s perspective and input because I view her as representing the way I approach the game, not being a min/max style player but one who just really enjoys it and the story. She asks the type of questions I would ask so thanks for doing what you do, Cookie!

Thanks for the grate episode love it and about the ideas for helping with the maths of the game is start from the top and explaining the skills as the in game tips are no good or to complex like what is better critical hit or chance and so on

All so about the delta rising expantion I love it voyager is my fave star trek and im glad they have included it in the game the level speed is slow and could do with something to bridge the gap and I think the game rules

  20. Lanceandragon on 2014-11-03

My review DR so far has been pretty positive. The vaadwaur act is probably just the first act of a plot that will take them 6 months or more to release.

On the subject of the STF rewards. The normalization of the rewards is a long time coming. The old Borg elite where giving out too much compared to the other queues. now you encouraged to learn and try out the out the other events and queues. Old ISE would give 980 dilithium plus another 1340 worth of marks for 5 minutes of work which was totally out of line. Cryptic knew this and DR was a good item to fix this. There are other sets besides the borg set to get. The Dyson, Undine and Romulan sets just as available to get. Like at the start of season 8 they adjusted the amount of dlithium the STFs gave. it took them a couple weeks to get the metrics of the rate they were earning. I’m sure by the time the winter event rolls around there will be some more tuning.

Leveling is always better with a friend or 4. More spawns will get you exp. You were always going about how STO doesn’t encourage teaming and being social.

The first few weeks of an expansion are specially with a level cap bump. Give it time for the players to settle in the new groves.

  21. JD Youngblood on 2014-11-03

Actually I think he was referring to Geko calling the players morons

  22. The_Grand_Nagus on 2014-11-03

So far I’m enjoying DR, although not as much as I had anticipated. Strangely, I’m not able to put my finger on exactly why, although I think it may be related to the fact that the content is broken up by level, which kind of puts the breaks on the excitement that comes with finishing one episode and immediately playing the next. But on the other hand, I kind of like the fact that I cant immediately burn through everything at once. So I’m really kind of conflicted on that issue. Beyond that I think the general discontent related to various different changes has somewhat killed my buzz. But I will say that I have enjoyed what I have played so far and look forward to finishing what I havent.

Great coverage again, but I’m confused while you don’t address all of the problems.
    The declining player base.
    The dil and XP nerfs.
The name-calling of the players by the EP.
The subsequent apology by the EP.

Do you work for Cryptic or are you impartial?

    • Elijah on 2014-11-03

Thanks for your message. It would be nice if we could spend hours upon hours talking about everything STO has to offer each week. But, if we did that, it wouldn’t give you much reason to come back and listen to Priority One Podcast week after week. Nevertheless, there are a few things on your list that I’ll immediately address.

“Declining Player Base” — Priority One Podcast does not have access to player metrics. Why would we speculate about something like this when we don’t have accurate numbers to back up the claim. People “rage-quitting” on the forums is an inaccurate source.
“Dil & XP Nerf” — Actually, we did talk about those issues in this episode.
“Name Calling of the players” — Are you talking about calling out the Exploiters? Well, I actually agree that they were exploiters: see my rant

I also address your question – “Do you work for Cryptic or are you impartial?” – in the above mentioned Op-Ed.

In any case – the work Priority One does is quite good, and it’s appreciated.

As for your rant – didn’t see it until after. Ok.

I do have player metrics; I tracked ingame instance populations during LoR, and through each of the special events. This included our fleet activity, logins, STF’s and others. It’s by no means perfect. I ignore Steam btw. Taken individually they are meaningless. Collectively they are an indication of player dissatisfaction.

As of today 9 players which I had actively run stf’s with have quit the game. 5 of those are paying customers. People come and people go, but not like this.

The queues, even with the Mirror Incursion, are well below 30% of what they have ever averaged.

And lets be honest – when have you ever seen a ‘Special Event’ launched during the first 2 weeks of a content launch? Not to mention LaughingTrendy said it would include Delta Marks.

      *sigh*

Cryptic’s communication with he player base has been and continues to be extremely poor.

If I had launched a product with this many bugs, causing in essence the forums to rage, I would have lost my job.

I regret buying the ops pack. I regret spending another $100 on dil.

DR overall is fine. My only issue is with the difficulty level they have set it at. I can’t seem to get the Patrol missions done within a two hour run. The amount of time it takes to kill those ships in my Tier 6 ship using all purple Mk 12 gear is way to long. And not at all that was promised. I am a family man so my gaming time is limited and precious, I need those missions not not take two hours to coomplete. If it does, then only one toon is getting attention at this time. And one of the biggest draws for me in STO was friendliness it had with Alts. That has been seriously been hampered.

I am at level 56, I haven’t hit anykind of level walls. Just killing walls. With NPC’s being sooo tough that it takes forever to kill them.

I guess I can sum it all up with I like most of DR. But the HP POOL of NPC’s and the amount of Dilithium it takes to do anything. Reduce both and they would have me extremely happy!

I really appreciate Cookie’s perspective and input because I view her as representing the way I approach the game, not being a min/max style player but one who just really enjoys it and the story. She asks the type of questions I would ask so thanks for doing what you do, Cookie!

Actually I think he was referring to Geko calling the players morons

Thanks for your message. It would be nice if we could spend hours upon hours talking about everything STO has to offer each week. But, if we did that, it wouldn’t give you much reason to come back and listen to Priority One Podcast week after week. Nevertheless, there are a few things on your list that I’ll immediately address.
