Subscription Box1Greetings, Captains! You’re listening to EPISODE 265 OF PRIORITY ONE PODCAST, your weekly report on all things Star Trek! This episode was recorded LIVE on Thursday, April 7th, 2016 and made available for download or streaming on Monday, April 11th, 2016 at PriorityOnePodcast.com!

We want to wish you a belated Happy First Contact Day! Hopefully you enjoyed our little April Fools episode last week!

This week, we’re Trekking Out a new product to help with your cosplay (or just so you can look stellarly fabulous). We also talk about the fan-favorite film sequel that almost was. In STONews, Mark and Kenna are getting down and dirty with Space Barbie. Later, Cookie and Elijah take a look at what’s On Screen and review the TNG episode Datalore. Then Jake entices us to open our wallets for some awesome trek products in his segment entitled, “The Promenade.”

As usual, before we wrap up the show, we’ll open hailing frequencies for your incoming messages.

TOPICS DISCUSSED

This week’s Community Questions:

  • What’s your favourite quote from Galaxy Quest?
  • Will you be making use of the new ship visual slots in Star Trek Online? And what will you be using?
  • What impact do you think Lore had on Data after the TNG ep Datalore?

Whether recruiting, managing the global team of talented volunteers, arranging interviews with special guests, editing, web-development, finding sponsors, managing crowd funding, or writing content for the podcast, Elio has a hand in it all. A long-time Trekkie, Elio has been watching the series since he was a child and sneaking in late night, back-to-back, episodes of TNG reruns. He finally embraced the Trekdom in college and spent many hours catching up on the entire multiverse…. instead of studying.

CQ1: Probably the line that always makes me LOL is “Let’s get out of here before one of those things kills Guy!”

CQ3: You can tell there was an impact, but as far as the larger question of the nature of Data’s “feelings,” it’s complicated. Geordi is his friend. He aspires to be human. He wanted to join Starfleet. He wanted to command a ship in Redemption. Friendship, aspiration, desire, and ambition might not technically be emotions, but they’re something you wouldn’t expect from someone devoid of them.

Speakpipe for the win, O my lord, that was hysterical.

    Wonderful episode everyone.

cq1) By the hammer of Grabthor!
cq2) Yes; reman shields, borg deflector, and breen engines.
cq3) Some human traits are not really good to have.

CQ1: Favourite Galaxy Quest quote “but it is inside out. and then it exploded”

CQ2: I have no interest in engine / deflector / shields visuals as I always like to run my ships as “factory spec” as possible , so always turns them off anyway. I would hoever be SO VERY EXCITED if they ever (re)introduce the ability to colourise weapons so they can all look the same.

My OCD has a hard time with weapon sets that look different to the bulk of what i run, such as only a Green Disruptor Omni when i run blue coalition disruptors.

    (1) What’s your favorite quote from Galaxy Quest?

Assuming I am not allowed to put quotation marks around the entire movie, my favorite quotation is Alan Rickman’s line, “You broke the ship. You broke the bloody ship!”

    (2) Will you be making use of the new ship visual slots in Star Trek Online? And what will you be using?

Not yet. We know at the moment that the visual slots will only work for deflectors, shields, and impulse engines. If and/or when this is expanded to modify other equipment I will be more interested. For example, I would like everything to look like standard Starfleet issued equipment so as not to take me out of the immersion. I would like the color of my beams to look like phasers, even if I have antiproton equipped. On the other hand, could this be considered cheating? I don’t play PvP, but maybe it is unfair for opponents to think you have one type of weapon when in reality you have something different.
