135Hello Captains and welcome to Priority One’s 135th episode, recorded on Thursday,  July 11th, 2013 and published on Monday, July 15th, 2013 at PriorityOnePodcast.com!!!

Elijah has decided to run for the hills following last weeks hostile takeover by the British, so this week James and Tony have kicked out the limeys and have given a great dose of Freedom to the podcast. In this week’s Trek It Out we cover Optilithic Data Rods (or “Superman Memory Crystals” as the creators insist on calling them). In STO News we cover the latest dev blogs, the recent Zen promotions and what the devs are doing to fix the Killer DOff issue, and finally we open up hailing frequencies and hear your incoming messages.

This week’s Community Questions:

  • What are your thoughts on the Scimitar? Does it leave something to be desired or is it too overpowered?

Elio is a Northern New Jersey Cuban-American and graduate of Kean University, having earned his Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Performance in 2011. He has performed in internationally renowned performance halls such as Avery Fisher Hall with the New York Philharmonic, as a member of the Westminster Symphonic Choir, and in Beijing, China as a representative for Kean University. Since 2012, he has had the wonderful opportunity to Executive Produce Priority One – the premiere Star Trek Online podcast. Whether recruiting, managing the global team of talented volunteers, arranging interviews with special guests, editing, web-development, finding sponsors, managing crowd funding, or writing content for the podcast, Elio has a hand in it all. A long-time Trekkie, Elio has been watching the series since he was a child and sneaking in late night, back-to-back, episodes of TNG reruns. He finally embraced the Trekdom in college and spent many hours catching up on the entire multiverse…. instead of studying.

I am not sure crafting in NW is the “minimum bar”, I think it’s a poor man’s excuse for crafting and it does not deserve to be called “crafting” at all—it’s a boring and repetitive clicky interface which happens to spit out items of questionable use every now and then. Where is the fun in that compared to truly involved crafting systems like those of SWG or EVE?

Everything less will be a disappointment. I don’t just want to order Doffs around for crafting, I want to do the work myself (or with my friends) from A to Z, and it should be a versatile challenge to achieve mastery, not just one simple interface to grind—after all, a crafting system should provide a new gameplay approach, not just a new interface.

Adding dilithium costs to the crafting system killed it. Since fleet and reputation gear is superior to crafted gear, there’s no point to ever use crafted gear. They need to either make crafted gear competitive with other kinds of gear or remove the dilithium costs.

The Tholian weapons uses Aux power. Most people have low Aux power so that why but its also better when shields are low or gone on the target.

Maybe there should of been a Aussie invasion of Priority One, I doubt you would of thrown Tim Tams over board.

    Good show all round.

It is never “Scimi”, it is Scimitar, even more appropriately Most Awesome Warship Created for Total Annihilation of Enemies Known as the Scimitar.
