Elijah

Elio is a Northern New Jersey Cuban-American and graduate of Kean University, having earned his Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Performance in 2011. He has performed in internationally renowned performance halls such as Avery Fisher Hall with the New York Philharmonic, as a member of the Westminster Symphonic Choir, and in Beijing, China as a representative for Kean University. Since 2012, he has had the wonderful opportunity to Executive Produce Priority One – the premiere Star Trek Online podcast. Whether recruiting, managing the global team of talented volunteers, arranging interviews with special guests, editing, web-development, finding sponsors, managing crowd funding, or writing content for the podcast, Elio has a hand in it all. A long-time Trekkie, Elio has been watching the series since he was a child and sneaking in late night, back-to-back, episodes of TNG reruns. He finally embraced the Trekdom in college and spent many hours catching up on the entire multiverse…. instead of studying.

-Is it okay for new Trek actors to not be experts or fanatical about Trek?

    – IT is VERY much alright, indeed even partially irrelevant. Talent, chemistry, stage direction and screenplay matter most. Disney has proven this by creating this Geek Golden Age in the form of its 14 Marvel movies, 2 Star Wars movies and 3 Netflix series.

Warner Brothers proved that casting big recognizable named actors in their 3 recent DCEU movies is a waste without a good script and a good unrushed production team.

Elijah continually to wisely criticize the inevitable flop that is ST:Discovery. In 2017, ST:Discovery is up against Game of Thrones, West World, The Walking Dead, Marvel’s Iron Fist, Marvel’s Defenders, and Marvel’s Punisher.

Star Trek movies and TV are often cursed with the same predictable problem…it continually thinks small and thinks “Star Trek” is about one ship. Star Wars used to be cursed with all it’s stories being about a force-user saving a world or galaxy.

Star Trek could have been a West Wing in space…but it will never be as smart as West Wing (widely considered the smartest TV drama ever to be made). DS9 is considered the smartest and best written Star Trek series but some ST fans were too afraid of DS9 pushing ST’s traditional narrative’s boundaries.

In early 2000s, ST Voyager and ST Enterprise could not compete against the superior writing and exploration narrative of Battle Star Galactica and West Wing. It was no longer mere opinion when even production crew commented their preference for those shows over narrative prison that limited their own shows.

I did gamble on lockboxes early on in my gaming in STO, but have since ceased. It’s much more fun to buy something from the C-Store and knowing what you get rather than gamble on getting a ship you want and end up with nothing but Lobi. I did collect enough Lobi eventually to get a Temporal ship I wanted, but the Wells was out of reach until saved up the EC. Long story short: don’t care for lockboxes, don’t care for lobi. Put some of the items on the C-Store, and maybe let us craft some of the other ones (like the consoles for example).

I get that lockboxes are the game’s cash cow, but the gambling mechanism is ridiculous. I discard them all. I occasionally buy traits off the Exchange. I’ve never been interested in the ships, though if they had a Borg cube, I’d probably buy one off the Exchange.

I find with the lockbox, we been having it for 5 years now.It might be showing signs of it age and people might be not so interested.

Sure it might be a different lockbox with something different inside of them that you can get by chance, but at the end of the day it is still a lockbox.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we have this conversation again about the reputation. That is starting to show it’s age like the lockbox too.

Two of my favorite lockboxes are the Temporal and the Mirror Incursion lockboxes, because they contained unique DOFF missions which rewarded unique DOFFs. Isis? “mrowl?”
Lockboxes are fun if you’re looking to be surprised; in this regard, the Infinity lockbox is the ultimate in randomness. However, they are not efficient if you’re looking for specific items.
Finally I just want to add that I also play Cryptic’s “Neverwinter”, and I’ve never even had the urge to try one of their lockboxes.

About Lockboxes they started to break the game in a bad way.

People do stack one OP lockbox console, trait, ship mastery or what ever is new in those things to an ridicules amount utterly breaking the existing content.

Pay2Win, Power Creep and Feature Creep all in one usually a Western MMO has one of those proplems maybe two to a degree put Cryptic managed to squeeze all three of those in like a good old Eastern MMO thanks part but not exclusive to what they pack in those lockboxes.
