A long-time Trekkie, Elio has been watching the series since he was a child and sneaking in late night, back-to-back, episodes of TNG reruns. He finally embraced the Trekdom in college and spent many hours catching up on the entire multiverse…. instead of studying.

Prob too late for the coming episode (tonight, yay!) so perhaps for the next, but here’s a lively STO discussion I had with my fleet.

Now that TOS 50th is behind us, and a new tv-show ahead, *and* 99% of all the TOS/TNG/DS9/Voy ships out on STO (T6 Connie), is this the watershed moment that STO will say goodbye to both the classic TOS/TNG-era since, well, they are basically *done* in STO now.

Will (should?) STO now focus on the new tv-show or just develop their own unique “STO timeline” ships, as all major and most sub-classes of *canon era* tv-ships now have been released?

We Trekkies can’t think of any particular canon-ship that we really wannahave that isn’t out already (for me only the USS Bozeman, Soyuz class, upgunned Miranda). So, what’s left ?

It’ll be hard for a few of us to say goodbye to the familiar TNG style, but any new (read: younger) fans weren’t even around when TNG/Voy aired – one fleetie only recently realized that DS9 had its own tv-show… (curse this temporal progression #getting old).

Anyway we’re feeling that we’re venturing into the unknown, saying goodbye to the familiar and embarking on this grand adventure called CBS All Access. Would be nice if the USS Prioritas crew could give some navigational advice.

    Greetings from a sunny Holland.

Browsing through the Eucl3d site these 3D prints look amazing. The Elite Dangerous ships, ~8″ in size are going for $30 so I’d expect a 12″ ship to be in the $40-$50. Add the CBS royalties and you might get a $60 sale price. Which is the upper limit I could justify paying. Not terrible for your own custom ship.

The store is showing consistent pricing from item to item for other games but these items share a similar complexity. I’m curious if the STO ships, because of the wide ranging geometry, will vary in price. A D’deridex for example has a lot of negative space and thus takes less time and material to print than a Delta Flyer of the same size. I hope they settle on a flat rate, or the next uproar we hear from the players will be one pf perceived penalizing or cash grabbing with “popular ships” that are simply more costly to print.

    Wonderful show everyone.

30-50 seems to be this companies range in most cases, i can live with that.

Hi priority one, for me I’ve just started to use a box controller for the pc and for the skills eg act, engineering, science and monvied it to the colour on the controller. It works well for me, they maybe do the same thing for console. Great show like normal ladies and gentlemen.

Console version does have a better look, though I miss a lot of the overall PC experience (having instant access to forums and other sites). The auto-fire option is nice and would be welcome in the PC version.

However, with the graphical update coming to the PC version (October?) I don’t see the attraction to ‘port’ myself over to console only – this is clearly something for new players and not for veteran STO players who have been with the pc version and our considerable investments.

Main deal-breaker is ofcourse that your lifetime sub does not carry over, or offers a discount at the very least.

Also I just don’t see myself starting all over again, after having ‘rebooted’ with Delta Recruit(s) and new AoY toon(s) recently.

    Good show P1 !

I have been enjoying it on console, and been PC player for 4 years, and for me at least i have not really had an issue with the radial menu and all the buttons and clickys. Granted I play xbox with my cousins with games we have there so not that new to controller and was able to click all the buttons pretty good.

First impressions of the console release:

The new lighting system is phenomenal, and it makes missions like “What Lies Beneath” much more entertaining as a story. On PC, I hate ground combat, but on console, I love it. The target lock system is pretty awesome. I basically never remember to use kit abilities on pc, especially at lower levels, so autofire for certain kit abilities is a welcome change! Autofire in space is also useful. But like Gavin said, there are higher level one-click abilities that will be tucked behind an ability wheel. This makes them harder to activate in a pinch. The text chat system is hard to utilize, but people who play with fleets will likely do voice chats anyway.

The full-screen character dialogs completely tune the player into what is going on. It feels more like watching and playing an episode than just “F-ing” my way through a mission on PC. I also find that playing STO on the couch with a controller and surround-sound goes a long way for IMMMMMMERSION. Overall, I really like the console version. It’s one of the best ports of a PC game to console that I have ever played. It just happens to be a Star Trek MMO.
