He has performed in internationally renowned performance halls such as Avery Fisher Hall with the New York Philharmonic, as a member of the Westminster Symphonic Choir, and in Beijing, China as a representative for Kean University. A long-time Trekkie, Elio has been watching the series since he was a child and sneaking in late night, back-to-back, episodes of TNG reruns. He finally embraced the Trekdom in college and spent many hours catching up on the entire multiverse…. instead of studying.

    1. I would say the basically the same as 2015. Given that STO really hasn’t deviated from how they released stuff, just the dates are all screwy. I would like to see Admiral Riker or a Jeffrey Combs anything.
    2. Ferengi were portrayed as a pseudo-Klingon raider group, basically what the Kazon became.
    3. The moral of the Last Outpost, is don’t judge a Trek species by its first iteration in a first season.

I would like to pipe about Elijah’s tinfoil hat rant. The GnT podcast has a great counter-argument to this one. I am inclined to be on the CBS side. Mr Peters was using crowdfunded donations to build his own studio using the Trek IP. They have the right to sue, while people may disagree about the new movies, I for one, enjoy them, they are not above to use another IP to gain profit from them without permission. On the GNT show, they pointed out that production personnel were being paid and that was another red flag for the lawyers. The actors had to be paid due to their SAG union. I disagree about how any Trek fan production can be put into place of Axanar because they are not doing what Axanar is doing (outside of the actually making a fan film).

    1. I think Kenna might be onto something with the travel through all the series idea. That would really be cool, and they have been mixing series lately (sphere builders from enterprise, nog from ds9 flying the time ship from voyager, dealing with sela/iconians from tng). As part of a 50th anniversary it makes sense really to hit everything. So I’d put my money with Kenna’s.

I dunno who I think will be next, but if they mix all the series then I’ll mention one people are not as likely to think of: Vaughn Armstrong. Specifically because in addition to appearing in TNG, DS9 and Enteprise, one of his voyager characters was the Romulan Telek R’mor who lived during the TOS era (captain of the science ship Voyager communicated with through a wormhole) and thus is one of the VERY few actors who could bridge all of the series AND he played the sphere builder test subject, giving him a direct link to the current story arc.

    2. It wasn’t my favorite first appearance of an alien, but I think the ship was distinctive, the whips were cool, and the lobes and ears were unique enough. I’m really glad Shimmerman got to redo them, but I which they hadn’t become such cowards, I loved Ethan Phillip’s Ferengi Marauder Captain and wished they kept more of the villain potential.

    3. On the moral, you have to remember the federation-ferengi conflict is set against the backdrop of the T’kon empire being so ancient (almost three times older than the iconians). I think the moral was “look where we came from (Ferengi); look where we could be today (Federation); don’t you want to be remembered by history for the right reasons (T’kon)? If so, keep heading toward the Federation and away from teh Ferengi.” Looking only at the federation-ferengi dynamics misses the key piece of the optimism of Star Trek. The future, even the Federation’s future, is bright and they chose the T’kon to appear in this episode for a reason, it wasn’t random (at least I’ve never seen anything that said it was).

    • GavinRuneblade on 2016-01-15

I miss-remembered, it was Tom Kopache who played the Sphere Builder. Vaugn’s flakey-skin alien was a Vidiian. Still, I do think he’s a very likely candidate, and I’d love to see his TOS-era via-voyager Romulan resolve what happened with Voyager’s messages. That throwaway line from a later episode menioning the Romulans knowing about Voyager is enticing but all too vague and could be utterly unrelated.

    Trek Actors/Characters I predict/hope for STO in 2016

Data: Salamiinferno mentioned talking to Brent Spiner at a Star Trek meeting, so it seems plausible to get him, now. It would be great to have Data in game, maybe even having a flashback to his times Captain of the Enterptise. Considering we’re going through time travel stories, maybe he could even play Arik Soong, too.

Rom: It’s hard to imagine us visiting Ferenginar without meeting Rom, so I hope he’s brought onboard.

Dax: Not only would Captain Ezri Dax be a great addition to the game, but what if she meets us and said she’d met us before in past lives? Having different incarnations of Dax as allies in different time periods we visit would be great and useful for a time travel series of stories. That would save on having to always trick people from the past or constantly persuade people we are from the future. Convince Lala Dax and all the successors will already accept. And besides for Jadzia, you could hire any actor and use any likeness to portray the past Daxes.

Bruce Greenwood as Christopher Pike Prime: The anniversary episode should include TOS somehow, but Shatner’s expensive. So maybe have us encounter Christopher Pike played by his living actor. Imagine walking around “The Cage” version of the TOS bridge with him. Don’t know whether it’s better to use Greenwood’s likeness or an approximation of Jeffrey Hunter’s.

If they get DS9 actors, the best to tell a DS9 story would be Kira and Odo. Odd would bring in the Changelings and show how things have changed with them. And in STO, Kira is now Kai, so she’d be great to take part in a Bajoran story. Also, those two meeting again could be great.

Axanar has my support and I follow the whole suit with interest and trepidation.

CQ1 – I would love to see a T6 Vesta/Aventine (puhleeze take my money) with Ezri Dax voice-work, since that could tie-in with a DS9-wormhole-timetravel story for the Anniversary.

CQ2 – The Ferengi were awfully represented, which was a real shame because I loved the rest of the story; a dormant sentient guardian that wasn’t necessarily evil (fav quote: “Ah, biped, excellent!”).

CQ3 – Keep your cool when threatened (Riker).

Great show guys, love the episode recaps and The Promenade ! There’s so much merchandise out there it’s nice to have some pieces highlighted.

I think the ferengi in “The Last Outpost” were represented as being more hostile and not so much like the profit making ferengi from DS9 or later TNG episodes.

  10. Decker73 on 2016-01-12

CQ1) I’m anticipating a Tier 6 Assault Cruiser (the one Captain Geko mentioned in the interview at STLV). I’m also anticipating a Romulan Republic Admiralty campaign with the next mid-season release. Story wise (based on Tuesday’s fiction) I expect Researcher Noye to find out about his wife from the temporally shielded computer Core, steal the Time Ship and try to revive her species. We’ll probably end up having to destroy the Time Ship.

CQ2) When talking about that episode, I always say they hadn’t figured out what they were going to do with the Ferengi yet. I’m glad they eventually figured them out.

CQ3) If at first you don’t succeed, try creating your villain again.

Kenna, you said something really scary when commenting about the Axanar lawsuit, what if CBS/Paramount only wants JJTrek. What does that mean for STO?

    • Kenna on 2016-01-14

THAT is a very good question, and one I hope to ask the devs myself soon!!

    Wonderful show everyone.

CQ1) 3rd expansion with Cardies, Kai Kira as canon voice.
CQ2) That episode sucked so bad.
CQ3) Dont skimp on the writers.

Hi Priority one, Happy New Year Ladies, Gentlemen if you ever want an Australian on the show i’m willing to do it guys form the voice of the land down under. I want to say Priority one that your my family it’s good to hear all of you each week you’ve been there through the think of it and hear similar voices and people each week has been great. my handle is in game @didz119 My community question is what coming up to STO this year, i would like to see Avery Brooks as Captain Ben Sicko and as the emissary of the profits.

  17. Startrekron on 2016-01-12

I predict a new expansion that will see us exploring the Gamma Quadrant. A small revamp of DS9, touch ups of the wormhole, and exploration. We’d also get to see what the original Dominion has been up to and where Odo is.

You talked about what voice overs you’d like to see. My pick is Jeffrey Combs who played quite a few characters in Star Trek including Weyoun on DS9 and Shran from Enterprise. These actors don’t come cheap, Combs could be a bargain if they could get him to voice both Weyoun and Shran.

This being my first time writing in, and there now being multiple community questions, I wasn’t sure if I was suppose to reply to all the questions, only one, or all questions but as separate submissions. So please forgive me for any error in protocol. Keep up the good work, and I mean that, since I just became a Patreon subscriber recently and am considering joining the fleet.

    (1) What are your predictions for Star Trek Online in 2016? And who do YOU think will be the next voice actor to join the game?

Given that it is the 50th Anniversary it would be great to have one featured episode from each era and have all the captains reprise their roles. Bonus points if they can get John De Lancie to reprise his role as Q to tie all the episodes together.

Being more realistic, however, I think they will get Matt Winston to reprise his role as Daniels from Enterprise so we can explore the 50 years of Star Trek through the Temporal Cold War.

    (2) How do you feel about the way the Ferengi were represented in “The Last Outpost”?

I was actually surprised by how much the Ferengi remained unchanged from their first appearance in “The Last Outpost” to their larger inclusion in Deep Space 9. While a bit more energetic and ridiculous in their premier episode they still look the same, were still driven by profit, and were still trying to get away with a scheme right until the very end. Compare this to how drastically the Klingons changed from TOS to TNG, or how the Borg, Trill, and Cardassians changed in appearance and attitudes from their first appearances in TNG to their appearances in DS9 and Voyager.

    (3) What do YOU think the moral of “The Last Outpost” was?

I think the moral, or at least the point, of “The Last Outpost” was to compare the more enlightened humanity of the 24th Century against a caricature of 20th Century humanity represented by the Ferengi. We get four key attributes of the Ferengi during this episode: they are motivated by greed, their movements are very “un-evolved” and monkey-like, they are barbaric in their use of whips as weapons, and sexist in the way they treat women. Riker even comes right out and summarizes this in his conversation with the Guardian when he says that the Ferengi are similar to ancient humans.

Or though also not an IP lawyer, I vaguely remember similar cases which were thrown out on the basis that the owner (guardian) of the IP hadn’t previously attempted to defend the IP.
