i would totally support and play foundry missions that tied in and continued the story between featured episodes. the most fun thing about playing sto and leveling my first character for each faction was doing the story missions for the first time, so i would love to see more story missions written. yes, i am going to vegas, but i won’t be going as a klingon so that means no bortaskoo uniform for me.

First, and foremost. CONGRATS on reaching your stretch goals on the Indigogo. YAY! Now all of you will be there. I personally am trying very hard to make it to Vegas myself. Fingers crossed. I already play foundry all the time it is a great source for exploration content. COULD it be made more user friendly ? Is a frogs butt water tight? That being said I do like the Idea of them being linked to the exploration clusters.

I think its pretty obvious I would play any spotlighted foundry missions. That said, I think the key to getting the average player to do it is:

    A) making sure they are actually AWARE of the foundry, and

    B) attaching rewards that people actually want enough to invest the time, as many foundry missions are rather lengthy.

On the subject of length, one of the main things I want “fixed” with the foundry is where if you come back to a mission you were playing before you can load directly to the map you were last on rather than having to reload through every previous map. That process is a turn off to me and I love the foundry, so I can only imagine its an even bigger turn off to someone who doesnt have that love.

Wonderful show everyone. The foundry could tie into other existing missions as well. As Vivienne says although is it a nice idea, it really isnt just a real replacement.

Unfortunately i will not be going to Vegas this year, i am commited to going north to visit family this year, and i can only afford one vacation a year.

  9. Woody_Valley on 2014-07-15

It is a good idea to have a tie in of foundry and exploration, just does it have to be a spotlighted mission?

As you mentioned, spotlighted do get plenty of publicity with magazines and on the STO website. Not to mention an extra incentive of EC and bonus Dilithium.

There are good authors out there, but there are good authors that never see the light of day. Why don’t we give them the opportunity to show their work in the explorations?

And as for Vegas, it is going to cost me 3200 Aussie Dollars just for me to get there. Hence the reason I said in last week’s episode, ‘See you in 2 years’. Gives me some time to save up for it and make it extra special being there for Star Trek’s 50th.

Hope you have a great time in Vegas.

Good show Guys and Cookie…Oops!! Sorry, still got to work on that. 😛

I love to hear your discussion but to believe that Foundry is a replacement for exploration. The very basis of Star Trek. I don’t think it can be or will ever be. As a gap content, definitely. As for random exploration with unexpected events due to exploring a sector. Foundry is not a replacement to that.

This is the first time, I just had to turned off the Priority One Podcast.

    Hi all,

To answer your question from this episode, It took me about 45 days to get from Tier 0 to Tier V for Counter Command on the first toon without commendations. And that was the fastest I have ever did an STO Rep on first run.

The 10 year statement was based on another forum posters calculations, which I have later found to be faulty in some areas. SO I set about trying to calculate my own more realistic answer. And for the first School, using no dilithium at any point, and solely focusing on just that one school, It will take me 344 days to go from level 0 to level 20 in that school. I haven’t run the numbers for what it would take me to do all the subsequent schools at this time. But I assume it will decrease as additional slots are open earlier for them. I plan on figuring it out completely over the next few days. But by that calculation I am guestimating around 5 to 6 years to completely do all of the 7 schools to max level on that one character. That is still a major commitment of time and Leveling will far quickly outstrip crafting at that kind of pace.

As for the community questions…I would play the foundry missions tied to story as it would create more veriaty in the game. And possibly be very interesting to see these side stories devloped more.

And I can’t make it to LV because of work and family.

UPDATE: Last night i got an update to my tribble account and a new DOff mission became available that gives 9,599 xp after 20 hour cooldown. I was able to slot more than one. This changes my numbers to being 61 days before I max out one school with my play time. This is acceptable to me. I have to figure out the rest and overall times yet, but it looks to be less than 2 years, maybe even less than a year to get all 7 maxed for me. THis is a great change in my book.

You have restored my confidence in crafting.

    • Dan Kochheiser on 2014-07-18

Update 2…So with the system going live. I recalculated my first schoool based on the changes and now it take me no more than 91 days to max out one school. WIth the potential to do it less with the random bonus to skill points to be gained. Again with not spending any Dilithium. SO 3 months down the road to get the first school is not bad. And acceptable to me.

Just responding to the question. I would definitely play spotlite missions only if they tied into the story in some way. I usally play 1-2 foundry episodes every week, there are some great ones, and some bad ones. Keep up the great work!

1: I would play Foundry missions that are tied in story between Featured Episodes, that bis if properly vetted.

2: I will not attend the Las Vegas convention. I would attend one near where I live but only with my brother-in-law, only losers go alone.

I’ve been asking for at least access to these stories in game somehow. I would even agree that a nominal zen (100 or 200 zen) purchase make it available in game, say even though the captain’s terminal on your bridge.

I totally support a “starfleet explorer corp’ ship sitting by the clusters to allow missions that are by those locations be visible. Of course it would also be nice if there was a next button to allow the foundry UI to show more than 50 missions, because this is one of the largest gates to finding missions.

    • Castmodean on 2014-07-14

and as to the question, I wouldnt limit play to just missions to expand on the already laid down story. One of the things about Star Trek is that its an entire universe to explore (and use to explore the human condition through others) that is not just limited to following a select group of people or stories. While touchstoning is certainly entertaining, some of the best missions build their own mythos while staying true to the overall theme of the universe i find.
