Subscription Box1Greetings, Captains! You’re listening to Episode 180 of Priority One Podcast, the premier Star Trek Online podcast! This episode was recorded on Thursday, June 26th, 2014 and published on Monday, June 30th, 2014 at PriorityOnePodcast.com!

Captains, this week Elijah and Jayce stay on the straight and narrow while CookieCupcakes is on an away mission this week! But, don’t fret — Cookie will be back for episode 181 of Priority One Podcast!

At the start of the show, we go around the web and Trek Out what has been trending in Star Trek this week; including our reaction to an interview by Nerdist Channel’s Humans From Earth with Roberto Orci.

In STONews, a new blog by System’s Designer AdjudicatorHawk has been released that continues the introduction into the new Crafting System hitting Holodeck later in July. We’ll also discuss your concerns over the loss of Exploration Clusters. Then, in our last edition of Field Notes, Professor Jayce and I review a defensive build for cruisers and put the theories from the last three Field Notes into practice! Towards the end of the show, we’ll open Hailing Frequencies to see what’s incoming from you — our listeners.

Am I the only one who likes the look of memory alpha? When I first ever played this game, I did the mission from Eggan and when I beamed down to memory alpha “anglic chorus”I was stunned. It is gorgeous! I even got a look alike map in an exploration cluster once. I do agree with Al though it is very poorly laid out and alot there is useless. That being said please keep it as a worthless social map Al. At least until you pull the other useless maps like Andoria, Vulcan, and old Risa among others. As for a new Star Trek show, I would love to see them go uber tech I mean along the lines of enterprise-J era or just before, maybe even a time ship crew. Great shows guys thanx for all you do.

For a netflix series I would love to see a story staring the Aventine and her crew. A Destiny series. I think that would be the best and it advances the story forward in the prime universe again.

The crafting revamp is a waste of time and effort. its just a crappy port from NW with a pretty new UI.

The clusters going away is the worst way they could have aproached it. with the new need of mats in the new system it would be a good quick way for people to get the mats. and some were quite fun.

Hey guys, thanks for your hard work and I hope to see all of you at Vegas.

I do however have something to say regarding Bob Orci directing. One of the things that I didn’t think you pick up enough on was his statement about that he had a lot of contacts that he could call on for help. As a writer/producer he has developed these contacts and in the interview he has explicitly stated that he will make use of these contacts to help him. This specifically addresses the concerns about having assistance while actually doing the job.

I have a lot of problems with the new crafting system. First, we do not need new crafting-specific specialist DOffs. There are already tons of different kinds of DOffs in the game, and ALL of them are suitable for the crafting system. Cryptic should not add EVEN MORE kinds of DOffs. And I’m saying this as someone who is more than willing to sink hundreds of hours into the DOff system. I have written guides on the DOff system and I personally have thousands of high quality DOffs. The DOff bloat is getting a little ridiculous, with new types being added with each lockbox and now crafting-specific DOffs. Make use of what’s already there, Cryptic.

Also, dilithium costs need to be lowered a lot to be reasonable. First of all, anything except ultra-rares should cost 0 dilithium, and then spending dilithium should guarantee getting an ultra-rare. The random chance aspect of crafting should be scrapped. Crafting should give you a set result every time. You want a purple, you craft a purple. You want an ultra-rare, you craft an ultra-rare.

As for exploration clusters, this is the only good change I see on Tribble. The content in these clusters is sub-standard and should be scrapped. As for those worried about earning dilithium, there are already better ways to earn dilithium. STFs and the Crystalline Entity queue event already give you more dilithium in less time than exploration clusters. Though I agree, there should be more options for earning dilithium in the game. I still think every mission replay should have an option to select a dilithium crate as one of the rewards.

    (ko-hi-zer) is my last name.

If Netflix did STar Trek, I would like for them to get back hoe the Original Series was. One ship traveling around exploring new worlds and responding to distress calls. I would like to see that format returned but set in the time after Voyagers return. Possibly exploring further through the Bajoran Wormhole so that they can make whole new races and not step on any previous races. With the Dominion mostly folded, there is an oppurtunity for the Federation to move into the power vacuum and bring more planets into the fold. This will lead to more diplomatic missions and cultural interactions than previous treks have been but still will allow for battles and conflicts of interests. This also gives a connection to DS( for people to continue the connection with what has gone before. I would also like to more Aliens as part of the command crew with possibly a Alien being the Captain, just to set it apart from the other Trek’s.

I would love to see a non-Federation show or at least a non-Federation centric show. Possibly, one about a new colony. However, I would love to see a continuation of the timeline into the 25th Century beyond STO.

If Netflix acquires Star Trek and makes a series, I would not at all mind them working with the existing post-Nemesis book series. The books may kill off too many characters as a matter of course, but the insights into most of the Typhon Pact cultures (and the fall of Ishan Anjar) would be brilliant to see.

    My biggest issues with Crafting:
1: Dilithium costs are absurdly high.
    2: Random gambles.
3: No mod customization (Geko said it would happen… but if the system won’t be DONE by launch, why launch? Why not push it back two months?)
4: XP gain is incredibly slow – to the point where I expect to consume max stacks of raw materials before getting Level 20 in a School. And, with the timers how they are, spending no Dilithium to finish it… it’ll prolly take six months to max any ONE school.
5: Dilithium “Finish Now” buttons. I don’t see how it takes an hour to assemble a beam array and yet I can “Finish Now” and have done with it (for an absurd Dilithium cost – 900 for an hour, which you’ll need to pop to level in any reasonable length of time). Really, make this 250k EC and people would like it more.
6: Additional arbitrary monetization with School Specialists, Crafting Accelerators, and the Dilithium cost to run the DOff project.

I really feel like I’m being milked for money. And I don’t like that. Combine this with higher Dilithium Store costs for Space weapons, and it starts to seem really monetized. This game does not need a new Dilithium sink. It needs some to be trimmed DOWN. It needs additional refining caps. I explained it over on Reddit in my “Dilithium Problem” thread. It’s really just a bad thing to do.

Well if he called me Woody Allen once, might as well be calling me Woolly Valley too.

If Netflix were to create a new Star Trek series I would LOVE it to be about the Earth-Romulan conflict as described in “The Balance of Terror”.

The combatants would use primitive atomic weapons and fly in primitive space vessels which allowed no quarter, no captives (Exerted from the transcript for “The Balance of Terror”).

Aw, my feedback last week apparently wasnt good enough to make it on the show again. Starting to think you guys dont like me anymore, or someone from Cryptic told you to ignore me =P

    • Elijah on 2014-06-30

Don’t go thinkin’ that! We just try to rotate between our loyal listeners feedback so that we try to include everyone. Don’t worry, no one’s ignoring you!

Showtime did produce the first 4 seasons on stargate SG-1. And though they did dump it… if it was never from that Sci Fi would have never picked it up.

As for crafting I fear that new players will be left behind. I mean you learning about the new stuff but then you lose them because you give all your white to a fleet or the first drop never had them.

The Dil is a problem because as for low levels toons its a lot harder. Can you name another way at low levels?

Crafting i am still very worried about. i been farming a lot on tribble and just to got level 2 with cannons close to 3 but all the rare stuff is unlocked at level 15. At this rate it will take me 6 months to unlock the stuff and i do this stuff hardcore. The problem is Magnesite. All the basic items use it but other white items are almost rare to use. Its unbalanced.

    • sanokskyrat on 2014-06-30

and you for sets you will need eng (armour), Shield and Ground weapons. For space science, shields and Eng again.
