Untitled-1Hello Admirals,

It is with great sadness that I must inform you that Shawn Williams – better known to the Priority One Podcast Community as “Airborne” – passed away on May 27, 2015.

Sometimes, it’s difficult to wrap your head around something so tragic – especially when a friendship is forged through a common playground like an MMO. Really, sometimes these friendships are more real than some we share at work or in school. When we’re online, we can truly be ourselves and – in most cases – our “toons” are representations of our true selves.

Airborne was nothing but real. He told you how it was. Good or bad. He was dedicated not only to playing Star Trek Online but, he found a Band of Brothers and Sisters within the Priority One Podcast Community – like he did when he proudly served for the United States of America.

He could be crass. He could be brutally honest. But he loved us and we loved him. Why? Because he was committed to ensuring that our community was the best environment for like-minded players that wanted to play Star Trek Online in a safe and encouraging atmosphere. Personally, he was often my go-to-guy to help level me out when I mistakenly let trolls get the better of me.

As an Admiral in the Priority One Podcast fleet, he made sure we ran with efficiency but, with infectious joy. He was dedicated to helping new players and learning from those more experienced. He was also committed to ensuring that Priority One Podcast continued to produce quality content from week to week. He took it upon himself to begin hosting weekly livestreams on Saturday nights to help promote the show and the Fleet. He did so professionally and enthusiastically.

Even when the pressure mounted and I suggested he take a break his reply was, “No. We have a job to do. Let’s get it done.”

This was Airborne. Proud of the work he did for the Priority One Podcast & greater Star Trek Online community.

Our community was as much his home as it was any other. Today, we have an empty chair at our table.

On behalf of the Priority One Podcast Community, we send our deepest condolences to his friends and family. To those he left behind: Live Long & Prosper the way Airborne would expect you to.

To remember him, we dedicate episode 224 of Priority One Podcast to Shawn “Airborne” Williams.

If you would like to honor his life – as well as the life of other Veterans who have served this country – the family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.

Sincerely,
– Elijah

He has performed in internationally renowned performance halls such as Avery Fisher Hall with the New York Philharmonic, as a member of the Westminster Symphonic Choir, and in Beijing, China as a representative for Kean University. Since 2012, he has had the wonderful opportunity to Executive Produce Priority One – the premiere Star Trek Online podcast. Whether recruiting, managing the global team of talented volunteers, arranging interviews with special guests, editing, web-development, finding sponsors, managing crowd funding, or writing content for the podcast, Elio has a hand in it all. A long-time Trekkie, Elio has been watching the series since he was a child and sneaking in late night, back-to-back, episodes of TNG reruns. He finally embraced the Trekdom in college and spent many hours catching up on the entire multiverse…. instead of studying.

He will be sorely missed. I know I will miss his friendship, sarcasm, jokes, and viewpoint. I will miss the opportunity to continue to have great debates and conversation in TeamSpeak during what he called “P1 After Dark.” Airborne, we will miss you.

There might be something tomorrow night around 6 PM EST. Airborne was a really good behind the scenes guy for P1.

On behalf of Jupiter Force I would like to convey our condolences for your loss.

Losing someone without warning or time to prepare yourself for the loss can clearly deepen the impact of such a tragic event.

In Ireland we would all meet up at a watering hole that reminded us of the fallen brother and celebrate him by sharing stories and anecdotes.

Hopefully you find an equivalent way to honour his passing and begin your own healing process. Our thoughts are with you all in this difficult time.

Very sad news and not the kind of news we are used to hearing about a fellow player, my thoughts and prayers are with his family.

A great loss to the community this truly is. For now, we let Admiral Williams take a well-deserved rest from the hard fight he battled. May his memory engrams and pattern be stored and remembered until the day the command “Energize” is given, and may his future journeys be free of incident.
