This week we’re bringing you TWO exclusive interviews that we recorded live at Star Trek Las Vegas, one with Larry Nemecek talking about his new project – Portal 47. We also chatted with the Federation of Beer, about what else? Beer.

In Star Trek Online News, we’re diving deep into the new featured episode “Butterfly Effect”. We’re also looking at the new “bug bashers” initiative at Cryptic and of course, picking out the salient points of this week’s patch notes.

And as always, before we wrap things up, we’ll open Hailing Frequencies for your incoming messages.

TOPICS DISCUSSED

This week’s Community Question:

  • If YOU were asked what change to make to the timeline in order to resolve the Iconian War, what would you choose — and how would that play out in the history of the Star Trek Universe? Remember — the Temporal Weapon needs a target and that target is erased from ever having existed.

Great show guys. I think you guys are forgetting that when the weapon goes boom it erases any changes it made to the time line as if it had never existed itself.

Also, Jayce. Why you no mention torps?

Anyone consider that this could be the beginning or the story behind the signing of the Temporal Accords and possibly the Temporal Cold War? Just something that’s been in the back of my head for several episodes now.

Thanks for that Butterfly vid, I enjoyed Kate Bankson’s comments (and Kenna, you’re always in ‘soft focus’ 🙂

I’d order the Temporal Weapon to wipe out the Deferi; just to give a generous kick to un-balance their precious balance *insert evil laugh* (yes, c’mon let me hear one, Jayce, Kenna).

However, to re-balance their sudden disappearance, the Breen reign supreme over their sector, and un-balance the nearby Bajoran one, tipping the balance in favor of the Jem’Hadar, who then topple both Bajora and Cardassians in one swift strike.

The Federation gets dragged into the Dominion War much too early and with the balance of power firmly in favor of the Jem’Hadar, DS9 gets obliterated before “The Sisko” ever sets foot on it.

The tide turns when one brave Andorian captain challenges the oncoming armada by claiming he has Corbomite on his ship.

Impressed and cowed by this bold claim, the Founders surrender, angering and turning the Klingons, and galvanizing the Romulans into a daring counter-offensive.

The war is won, and Andor is proclaimed the new Federation capital. Meanwhile a lone human explorer ventures out to the former Deferi world and uncovers a hidden archive… 🙂

I would choose to resolve the Iconian War by eliminating the Elachi from the timeline. with the Elachi out of the picture, the Romulan Republic would’t have to deal with mass abductions of its people. they would have more numbers and not only that, but the remnants of the Tal Shiar would also be severely weakened by the loss of such an effective ally. since the Elachi are erased from existence, the Republic would spend its time constructing stronger ships with more effective weapons which would be an asset to the Alliance in the fight against the Ionians. with the newly strengthened technology of the republic having been distributed to all alliance ships and with the increased man power that the Republic has at its disposal, the Alliance would be able to defeat the Iconians using conventional warfare. the Iconian war would still happen, but this time, we would have the upper hand. if for any reason the temporal incursion produced disastrous effects, the ships temporal core could be overloaded and its temporal shields could be taken offline. this would cause a temporal incursion within the ship that would reverse all the effects of the weapon and get us back to our original timeline.

It all comes back to Lae’nas and the Preserver archive. That’s where the Delta Recruit arc started, and I think that’s where we’ll see the Iconian war end.

CQ) First of all i would not have wanted a dreadnaught sized weapon, i would want a hand gun. I think the main problem is trying to change time with huge targets, when smaller targets would cause less collateral damage in the first place.

    Wonderful show everyone.

Send Tribbles, lots of Tribbles…they make. Great. Pets…they would soften the cold dead hearts of the Iconians. Just have to divert some cargo ship full of the little fur balls to Iconia. Great show guys! Keep it up.

Great show guys. And yes i agree with you. I too was a little bit disappointed in the writing. There were clear “laws” abotu how the temporal ship worked in Year of Hell. the main being if the ship was destoryed when there temporal shields were down. The timeline would go back to the way it was. Also once you delete a thing it would undo alot of what you have done… but this was not prefect as the Captain Axe keep trying to delete things to bring back his wife. So that i am ok with but it did seem to push the rules all over the place.

    No offense, but:

Please bring back Elijah and Cookie from their MST3K trip!

On my P1P I wan’t some PASSIONate discussions, regardless of skill/progression – which was innate to E and C.

(Not to discredit Jc, he is perfect in that role.
But Jn – either walk way or embrace Trek and stop sounding like being sarcastic!
    (aware of kinda pun))
