I would like Priority One to ask some tougher question. The powers to be decided to talk up the DR launch which I think is a failure and made it difficult to level. So, players choose the most efficient way to do it, and know what. Cryptic decided to call them exploiters and cheaters.

So, I think developers knowledge of players is bad. There is a huge disconnect. I also don’t think Smirk play the game much because he needed help from players on his build(to be competitive without using Dev exploits because they have gear to be 17x better).

Lastly, Cryptic been on a blame the playerbase for their freaken mistakes and started to systematically censor players who does not join the Cryptic fanboy/fangirl club.

A good video about this on youtube is at
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OLEulq5Jls

As for me, I was banned from posting new threadss but can respond to others because of the following http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=1275131

Lastly, 5x HP basically 5x skill with 5x time to beat content on Elite and players get 2x reward. Cryptic can shove that elite mode …..

  2. deokkent on 2014-10-28

Cryptic has to be made to realize that raising hit points and resistance values does not necessarily mean improving difficulty of the content. The interaction of the NPCs and players hasn’t changed in that respect, this basically only lengthens NPCs encounters. I really hope they understand that someday; unless that is they already knew that then my point is moot.

But if Cryptic wants to genuinely improve the difficulty in STO, the only way to give players a run for their money in elite missions is to allow the AI some counters to player’s actions, (more emergency powers, tactical team, science team, shield/hull heal, scramble sensors etc). Of course, the current health and resistance values are to be lowered. This would significantly improve NPC/Player dynamic, as now people begin to pay attention to what the NPCs is doing and timng their abilities accordingly. It’s a little complex to gauge the strength and effectiveness of the counters but this is why player feedback is important and needs to be more involved in the decision making. That is all.

    Thanks!

He does have a point Elijah. There was also no discussion from the 3 of you about the hear and now and the problems that have the forums on fire.

    • Elijah on 2014-10-28

Probably the most important thing Cookie said in the Intro of the episode was ignored. We have soOoOo much content from our visit to Cryptic that we’re using this opportunity to take a much needed vacation w/o taking the show offline for a few weeks. The show should go back to normal by episode 198.

I’ve been pod-casting for over 180 episodes now and if I’m feeling burned out, you can bet so does the rest of the team. Like any job, vacations and time away are crucial to productivity.

Don’t worry — we’ll be back to normal in just a few weeks.

      • Wardcalis on 2014-10-28

I heard what she said about Tau Dewa, but that is only 1 of the 10-15 MAJOR MAJOR problems that players are up in arms about; and it has been resolved by the devs and doesn’t need to be talked about. But, like I said there are others, many others.

I know much of it is because of a lack of understanding on the player base and also because of lack of proper communication from the Devs. I can understand feeling burnt out, i have a 5 year project i’ve been working on myself that is maybe 1/2 way done, trust me I know burnt out. But some times you need to grit your teeth and push through.

I can’t speak for all of Priority One podcast listeners but I listen because of the alternate perspective for various events and content releases that I hear from all of you. It is important to ME to get that from you. Jayce knows a lot of the juicy rumors and has insightful ways of twisting build ideas, Cookie’s innocence leads her to ask questions I never would of though of and your experience anchors the startrek feeling.

To me the interviews are interesting but not very important, not the way the commentary from the 3 of you has become. I’m not saying you should go full swing as usual, I’m requesting you fill the show with a tiny bit more commentary and address at least some of the major concerns the players are up in arms about. Nothing official or anything, just your individual perspective on the various situations. Stuff like the content to experience requirements, stuff like the STF difficulties.

I value your opinions, from all of you and do use them when weighing mine, and i’m willing to bet i am not the only one. You guys ARE the best, and you deserve a break now and then, but this time is very critical.

      • Aelfwin on 2014-10-29

        Being tired is a valid-ish point .
Taking “time out” right as a major update happens , without representing neither the issues of the playerbase , nor Cryptic’s responses & attempted (and so far failed) adjustments — that’s just poor timing .
VERY poor timing … considering how many actual updates this game gets per year .
But you are a fan project , so I’ll be patient .
But as a fan , I can;t help but to feel let down when one and all of the STO podcast’s that remain seem to have a collective “quiet time” about the several elephants in the room .

  4. sanokskyrat on 2014-10-28

I wrote a comment before but its not showing up so i writing it again just in case.

First I love the game. But i feel that we as gamers are not been heard.

I love all my ships. T6 are great but the less EC and Dil for stfs is hurting the game.

But the Language used by cryptic for something they were told about before launch and a whole week went by before they took action has made many players angry.

Right or wrong is not the problem however, right now i problem is whether the game will continue into the future. With the nerfs to XP and Dil and then EC i feel that the answer is no.

Which pains me. But i feel that there is a big disconnect. I love the dev and what they have done but the lack of missions like the hour event i feel has hurt the game. i find less people to team up with. even less after the BNP went from a bonus 5 to 1 no mater what. At launch it was next to impossible and no longer worth the reward same goes for delta makers. some missions give 5, 4 or even 3 marks? What the hell? Sure i like a changeling but this is crazy. I spend all day playing sto and now i finding i can spend all day playing and get no ward compared to time.

A lot of other gamers ask me should they play STO? And i can not answer that question anymore. I dont know. I want to say yes but it doesnt feel like the game i loved anymore. its becoming something else. And i not sure i like it.

  5. sanokskyrat on 2014-10-28

As much as i hate to say it. I think well would should talk about what happened. Thing is i remember in interviews and blogs talk of team ups “giving greater rewards”.

Granted it was faster then intended but a lot more then the 300 were doing it but since the “bug” is gone i am seeing less people in game and a lot of people angry at the poor langue used in addressing the issues.

And I with others are not happy with the dil rewards for STF’s and in fact after DR lunch have given it a miss in the following weeks all together. Its just not fun any more.

I feel though that all of this is more symptoms of a bigger problem. I am not trying to bash the game. I LOVE THE GAME! I am like a some of your love sound crew. I get all the ships and through money at them for it. but right now i feel the that Dil Nerf and EC Nerf hurt the game. And feel that now would be a great time to bring back the Mirror hour event or exploration would be needed back in the game. sure its not polished but it did provide a need. and that need is another opinion for people.

I have my friends ask me about should they start playing sto… and i find i can not recommend it to them. For all the improvements it has made I feel that we are not being listen too and that the business whats our money.

Like i said i got all the ships but now level 33 toons and working on all those ships is truing me off the game. i wont be able to earn small amounts of EC or Dil like before and am out of action just leveling out all these toons to the end of time.

Hi pine team love your episode as I all ways do but I was wondering could you do a section on skills and the math of the game to help players out I would be 100% behind ya on that thee is a lot you could cover

  7. Woody_Valley on 2014-10-28

I believe that it is the second time you interviewed Borticus.

You guys interviewed him with Captain Gecko last time you visited Cryptic Studios with James and Adrianne, 2 years ago.

Good Dev interview. As taken on the odd producer role myself with various stage, musical and concert productions the principle is all the same. We have a schedule to keep.

    Thanks Guys.

Oh and love the Aussie music on the blooper real too. 🙂

  8. Marcase on 2014-10-28

    Good episode, love the interviews.

I am a disappointed however that the EULA “forbids” you guys to talk about the whole Tua Dewa fiasco. You didn’t have to talk about the exploit itself (the mechanics) but what it did to the game and the actions the Devs took; they shut down an ENTIRE sector… That was a first in STO iirc. Big Thing.

The result is no vanilla run either; the xp nerf has a huge impact on many (casual) players who can’t level up fast enough to enjoy DR and instead keep running into an xp wall.

I know you guys depend on Cryptic for news and interviews, but as a ‘premier STO podcast’ I would’ve hoped you could provide a players view to the Devs as well.

    • The_Grand_Nagus on 2014-10-28

I agree completely. There is a huge difference between discussing the exploit itself, and discussing the actions the devs took. I mean, D’Angelo made a big post about their actions, so there is no way you can claim it is against the rules to discuss his post which was made on a public forum. If the hosts just dont want to talk about it, thats their prerogative, but it is most certainly not against the rules to discuss what the devs themselves have posted about publicly, and the overall handling of the situation.

      • Elijah on 2014-10-28

Aww… C’mon Nagus — You didn’t read my comments below before you posted, did you?

        • The_Grand_Nagus on 2014-10-28

About burnout? If so yes, I read it. However the post I was replying to sounded as if the issue was not being discussed because some of the hosts thought it was somehow against the EULA.

So like I said, if you guys dont want to discuss a certain issue, thats your prerogative. I am just saying that it is definitely not against the EULA to discuss what the devs have publicly posted about. If you just havent gotten around to it yet because you are busy or tired, that is a completely separate issue from the EULA.

And if I just misunderstood something, my bad =D

    • The_Grand_Nagus on 2014-10-31

Well, I finally got a chance to listen to the show, and unfortunately the comments about not being able to discuss the exploit situation were exactly what I was afraid of. To be completely clear, it WOULD be against the EULA to discuss the SPECIFIC details of an exploit. However it is absolutely NOT against the EULA to simply acknowledge that there was an exploit, and then discuss whether Cryptic handled it the right way and the communitys reaction. Using the EULA to not discuss the entire situation is a very bad strawman excuse. If the hosts just havent had the time to discuss the issue, thats completely fine. And if they just dont want to discuss it because it might make Cryptic look bad… well, thats not “ok”, but it is still their show, so their choice. However, neither of those issues has anything to do with the EULA, so it should not have even been mentioned.

      • Elijah on 2014-10-31

I think you’re really grasping at strings here, Nagus, and dissecting what we said to an absolute extreme. What we said in the introduction was not inaccurate. There was an exploit. A) We can’t talk about the exploit in detail B) What good is it going to do a majority of our listeners to discuss a topic that we can’t discuss in detail. Why focus on the drama when we can’t paint a clear picture? So, yes… It should have been mentioned. If you’re looking for my opinion on it, then have a read at my editorial on the matter. priorityonepodcast.com/rant44

        • The_Grand_Nagus on 2014-10-31

“What good is it going to do to discuss a topic we cant discuss in detail”

Except you can. The topic that is worth discussion is NOT the exploit itself, but how it was handled. You CAN discuss that in detail, and that has absolutely nothing to do with the EULA. And while I look forward to reading your opinion, it is still very misleading to blame the EULA for not discussing the handling of the situation itself and the communitys reaction on the actual show. If you cant tell, my issue is with the strawman excuse. If you guys had just ignored the issue completely, I wouldnt have a real problem, because like I said before, its your show so your prerogative what you want to discuss. But I do think it would benefit the community and the devs to have an honest discussion on “the premier Star Trek Online podcast” about the way this situation was handled, and how things could possibly be handled better in the future. Hopefully my point is clear and makes sense xp

  9. David Desjardins (@creativegeek_ca) on 2014-10-27

Lets not talk about the elephant in the room. YAY.

Informative podcast though… might have been nice to see this 2 weeks before DR. That’s on Cryptic, not you.

  10. Thomas Valentine Townley on 2014-10-27

So it’s a canned ham episode.

    • Elijah on 2014-10-27

Not exactly sure what you’re implying — But, I think over an hour’s worth of content is plenty for a week’s episode in addition to the production of today’s video release on our YouTube channel.
