Sorry I didn’t get to listen to 155 in time to comment, but what I would have said about game mechanics I’d like to see for STO is: improved mastery on game controller interface. The control scheme for star trek online on the ground combat side has room for improvement when compared to Another Cryptic game Champions online. On STO about two thirds of the player ability’s are mapped to the controller and the rest are accessed by mouse or keyboard… Champions excelled at [example] STO: when talking to an Npc you pull left and right triggers to highlight a prompt, move up or down with the left thumb stick if there are more than one prompt, then A to select. Champions: up on the D pad.
And for space combat, only the controller’s left stick is mapped to maneuver and triggers to select targets. you have to duel wield controller and mouse to get things done. If they want to move to consoles the must master the Controller… or come up with a mouse keyboard adapter.

Referring to 156 if money was no object I’d have a Enterprise style Captains quarters for my study room and a Mass Effect Normandy galaxy map to center myself… that map just calms me.

Elijah – you mentioned moving to NC (which I did, from OH), and let me just say, it’s rare to find homes with basements around here. The ‘dirt’ is really clay, so it’s few and far between that you would fine a nice home with a basement. Just saying 😉

As for your question – if I could build my own home, it would be circular… because let face it, how awesome would it be to have circular hallways on the outside of the home, with all your room inward, then an open center / courtyard in the middle (you could make it like star fleet headquarters). I just need to win the lotto 🙂

/random rant – I HATE Arc just like I dislike STEAM and HATE Origin (too) 😉

Lastly, I think they’re done adding factions to the game – there is way too much to work on as opposed to adding another faction.

Thanks for the heads up about NC! — I’ll just have to settle for an “Office” — or Captain’s Ready Room… whichever…

My unlimited budget would be ambitious, I would want to build a “working” replica of the Engineering Room and offices from ST:TNG, with a pulsing two story engine housed inside.

If I truly have no budget, then I might actually try to have it made as a working Geothermal Intake, allowing it to actually power the rest of the house, and perhaps my neighborhood too.

As for the VO work being done, I am placing a bet on Tim Russ (Tuvok from VOY), as he was in the area for his band near the same time.

I’m not into doing up a Starship bridge room. I would like to do a wall and hang up the Enterprise drawings they have on the Fleet Starbase. It would look great.

I find it strange that people say that Arc is spyware. I know it is not, for if it was, it be very chaotic to use with your anti-virus or internet security software and Malware Bytes will have a field day.

I do have a question about what sort of firewall Arc will have, from stopping it being maliciously hacked.

I have seen lesser known game avatars, first hand, been hacked and it is not pretty.

My dream room would be filled with all sorts of sci-fi/fant stuff. Star trek and wars, babylon 5, farscape, stargate.

    Awesome episode everyone.

What game mechanics would I like for Star Trek Online?

Three (in order of ease of implementation, IMHO):

    1) True AUTO-PILOT
    2) ON-SHIP MISSIONS–on our own ships.
    3) True 3D-SPACE FLIGHT

The above is the TLDR version. I put in some details below:

    1) AUTO-PILOT:

I tell the ship’s computer to go to Vulcan but it STOPS at a battle and asks if I want to engage or it STOPS at a merchant and ask if I want to trade, or it STOPS at a sector wall and ask if I wish to cross over. No, no, no, computer. I said Vulcan and meant it. Stop sightseeing and get me to my destination, please. I know work is being down to lower the sector wall completely. Fine and good, but until then we could still have sector walls, only when the ship needs to cross sectors, it automatically does so. Now if you want to get fancy and give us the option to turn on or off to skip waypoints, battles, merchants, etc. then I wouldn’t object.

    2) ON-SHIP MISSIONS:

Not just the one-off, Featured Episode variety, or where one of the awesome Foundry authors have to specially make one, but I mean regular on-ship missions based on the ship we’re on–be it a starship or a shuttlecraft, because some episodes did take place on them. Just as many episodes of TOS, TNG, VOY, ENT and even some DS9 all took place on-board a ship, many of us Trek and STO fans would look forward to that in-game.

    3) 3D-SPACE FLIGHT:

True 3d-space flight lets you do full 360-degree barrel rolls and loop de loops, even if really slowly for the big starships, and much faster for the shuttles and fighter ships. Right now you can climb and dive 80 degrees up or 80 degrees down, stopping you from doing a loop de loop. Also you can’t barrel roll at all. The closest to it is maybe a 10 degree bank left or right whenever we turn the ship left or right.

Also we should be able to have lateral and “vertical” thrust. Wrath of Khan featured the Enterprise during vertical thrust “up”, as if rocket engines in the hull were pushing the ship “upward”. Right now we can thrust forward and backward, but not up and down, nor left and right, as if the ship was moving Strafe Left and Strafe Right.

    — Ken from Chicago

P.S. While I listed those in order of which I thought was easiest to implement, my personal preference all things being equal is #1: On-Ship Missions, #2: 3D Space-Flight & #3: Auto-Pilot.

Hey Ken, regarding the Auto Pilot, there is (almost) this option already, under the Controls section is an option called “Keep moving during contact dialogues” — switching this on will keep your ship or character moving, so if you plot a course to Vulcan and you get a battle notification or a trade window, it’ll keep going regardless. This will still prompt you at sector borders, but it’s at least a start!

Cool. Yep, that’s what I’m looking for in Autopilot. If one could add Sector Walls as something your ship could keep going past, that would be awesome.

Btw, an additional aspect of Autopilot I was hoping for is that your ship would keep flying WHILE INSIDE. If you’re on the Bridge, or in your Ready Room or the Lift, Crew’s Lounge, Engineering, etc., the ship would keep flying.

Of course, if you’re on the Bridge, the main screen by default shows space zooming towards you (tho you can set the view to rear or side views). Windows in other areas would show the space “streaks” zooming based on whether one was facing the front, rear or side of the ship.

Bonus: Your Number One notifies you when the ship is approaching the star system.

        — Ken from Chicago

P.S. Being able to go into combat while inside the ship would be awesome, but would probably require radical changing how combat targeting works.

Hello, P1. Lovely show last week.

For my Ultimate Trekkie Basement, I would have the Origin bridge from STO. It is a very classy set up, large enough for your family and friends, and you have a triple monitor set-up built in.

Another thing I would like would be a physical model of my ship in STO. Not just a model of the ship class, but MY ship with its custom parts, paint job, windows, not to mention name and registry number. If it had some sound effects buttons on the side for warp speed, phaser fire and such, that would be AWESOME! I would pay.. something around $60 for that.

Also, I tried to use your speech pipe app, and was such a stuttering nightmare that I could not finish a paragraph. Therefore, I hereby withdraw my application for Priority One host. Good luck and further searches, and May the Stars Guide You.

I would like the bedding, Not sure which series show it but I remember seeing silver/spacey looking sheets and blankets and pillows. I think that would be fun. Oh and the sonic shower! Oh and a holodeck room would just be awesome (like they did on community).
