Subscription Box1Hello, Captains, and a very happy new year to you all! You’re listening to Episode 155 of Priority One Podcast, the premier Star Trek Online podcast! This episode was recorded live on TrekRadio.net on Thursday, January 2nd, 2014 and published for download on Monday, January 6th at PriorityOnePodcast.com! James and Tony are still recovering from the New Year’s celebrations on Risa (a little too much Romulan Ale) so Elijah is joined by Elliot on the USS Priority One for a show to kick 2014 off to a flying start. This week we Trek Out the top 10 Star Trek moments of 2013 and then Scotty gives her all she’s got as we head into STO News and cover the latest Spire Featured Project, STO boldly going onto consoles (possibly) and the latest trend in MMOs, Dynamic World Changing Events and how it can be applied to STO. Next, ChivalryBean gives us an utter plethora (I got a dictionary for Christmas) of Foundry reviews in our Community Spotlight, before we open up Hailing Frequencies and check out what’s incoming from you, our listeners. Topics Discussed

This Week’s Community Questions

  • What type of game mechanic would you like to see in Star Trek Online in 2014? Is it really just about new missions, or would you like to see more features like Dynamic Content and Dynamic Events come to STO?
  • Is STO, or any other MMO for that matter destined for next-gen consoles? Should MMOs (in the conventional sense) stay on the PC?

He has performed in internationally renowned performance halls such as Avery Fisher Hall with the New York Philharmonic, as a member of the Westminster Symphonic Choir, and in Beijing, China as a representative for Kean University. Since 2012, he has had the wonderful opportunity to Executive Produce Priority One – the premiere Star Trek Online podcast. Whether recruiting, managing the global team of talented volunteers, arranging interviews with special guests, editing, web-development, finding sponsors, managing crowd funding, or writing content for the podcast, Elio has a hand in it all. A long-time Trekkie, Elio has been watching the series since he was a child and sneaking in late night, back-to-back, episodes of TNG reruns. He finally embraced the Trekdom in college and spent many hours catching up on the entire multiverse…. instead of studying.

The feature I would love to see is the ability to develop and manage the ships under our command (away team in space, use them on DOFF assignments, have them respond instead of generic ships when using Fleet Support). It’s always bothered me that 90% of Starfleet is in space dock all the time. I also think these “Personal Fleets” should be called “Battle Groups” to keep them from getting confused with existing fleets.

Hey guys, I spent a while thinking of various ideas for dynamic content and here is what I came up with. Currently the only time your fleet starbase is attacked is if you que up for the mission(which ironically means you are the cause of the attack).

But anyway, my idea is for these attacks to happen randomly like the red alerts. The catch is, if you fail to defend the base there are actual consequences. For example, if a base is not defended it takes a damaged visual appearance. Going even further, it could require completing a repair fleet project to repair the appearance. And if you really want to get harsh, you could have it where you cant start any new projects until the base is repaired.

Of course, this is the tricky part, because you cant make it impossible for smaller fleets. So i would suggest that these attacks would only start when a fleet reaches top tier, and could only happen if a certain number of people in the fleet are online.

At this point I will turn this idea over to you guys to discuss and refine and pitch if you like. Happy new year!

I’d love to see the Portal developed to a point where I can do more than look at my BOffs and ship. Check mail, DOff asignments, maybe even the Exchange. I’m frequently away from my computer, but rarely seperated from my phone. This’d be a feature I’d pay Zen for.

    CQ1: Useful Crafting.
CQ2: Yes and Yes. They will come and it will not be good, they should stay on pc, let the consoles make their own.
    Entertaining and enlightening as always.

    dynamic content…

Could be interesting but sounds a lot like the buzz word as other games have done this like “rift”.

If you were doing it the only time people would notice would be on the SB which could be a pain. But some many people got so much awesome gear, red alerts are no threat at all and can be done in 5 mins. I am not ruling it out i like the idea but would need more details.
